Well i normally go to a place in the UK Called MaidenheadAqautics and they are very good suppliers with a vast variety of fish and superb advice its unreal.

But i was heading home after going to that shop after buying some real plants (my fish LOVE then btw) And remember this pet shop i went to as a kid and thought lets have a look in there.. Well i went in there and what a bloody state it was no more than a warehouse from 1942 it was terrible my partner had to leave after seeing the animals kept the way they were.

So i was looking at the fish which were covered in algae and all sorts one tank was so bad i kid you not i thought it was empty i looked inside to find a little red betta in the corner all by himself . I thought sod it he's coming with me i ordered the shop owner to get him for me and on my way out i said "if i had the money id buy everything in this shop so you cant sell them , this fish is nearly dying its fins are like strings! and swore at him (i wont repeat it here). And marched out. I checked the fella out and he was poor barely breathing and his fins were pretty bad. So i added him to my small very peaceful community tank and i am now a daddy to this fish who has perked up after added a few meds to the tank.

One i cant add because the Knifefish isn't a fan of it . But i gave him a treat of brine shrimp and left him chill in the dark for a few hours i put on my dim light (for the knifefish) and i could see the betta was hanging with my large mollys and swimming around and trying to uproot my plants!!

But i am happy he is ok and will be watching him like a hawk in case he turns but he is my last addition to my tank for now and i plan on getting the PDSA involved on that god forsakken pet shop

It's such a shame hes a lovely fish and i hope he does well!!

Well i reported the shop and was told by the RSPCA it has had another report this week and will send someone out to the shop within a few days and send me an outcome report

Good job and congrats on rescuing the little boy, poor thing.

You might want to consider picking up a 2.5 or 5g in case things don't work in the community tank. When and if they turn, they turn fast and you want to be ready.

I hope the betta wasn't carrying anything that he could pass on to your other fish, it's always best to quarantine a new fish for a few weeks.

Yea he's doing better than being stick in a green cup in my community tank hes hanging with the mollies now and i gave everyone a nice feed of one algae wafer some shrimp and a little dose of fish flakes ( each fish like diffrent food ) and hes doing alot better he swims with other fish like tetras and my ram will actually stay close to him also. Seems like that was lucky

That's good to hear. You should get him some proper betta pellets, he'd like those and they're healthier for him.

Just an update hes doing well and is VERY fond of my knifefish, where the knifefish goes he goes. He looks confused when he goes upside down and hides in the ship where the betta cant go then he just waits for him to come out lol

Placid betta? i think/hope so

gonna try some fresh garlic to repair his shredded tails poor sod

Sounds cute.. I bet he's happy to be given good care at last. I hope that he'll heal up fast.

Thats great to know that theres some great people who care for animals unlike MANY neglegant people. All the petstores around me are run by us teenagers ( aint eva havin no kids) and the animals are ALL in pathetic condition. I had never thought to report them! Excellent thread!!!
