A Horrifying Accident

I was cleaning my tank today, getting some of the gravel and whatnot and my beautiful baby girl got sucked up my python and went through the whole hose and got stuck at the part going back into the sink!!!

This terrible tragedy has left me very emotional and my poor little girl probably dying!!

On her side, some white stuff is sticking out just behind her gill area. Has this ever happened to anyone else?? Has anyone had a fish recover from something so awful happening to them??!!

Any thoughts on how to make her more comfortable?? HELP PLEASE

First of all, I am so sorry about your little one.

How long after this accident did the white stuff on her gills show up? What does it look like? This could be a fungus, fish are prone to get such infections on damaged scales, especially if they're stressed out. On the bright side, a fungus is pretty easy to treat.

This may help, if it sounds like that could be what it is:

I wish you the best of luck!!

Good thought about the fungus, but it is not on her gills. the stuff is actually behind the gill area, sticking out of her "skin" it is just in the one spot. and it showed up in the midst of the accident.

Have you tried to brush it off her? This might sound silly, but maybe there's just something stuck to her. -_- I wish I could help more, but I haven't seen anything like that before! I hope she feels better soon!

im so sorry for her and hope she gets better..it happens alot to ppl so dont be too hard on yourself...I would start her on garlic guard or pieces of fresh garlic, vita chem, and some fish protector if you can get them...hope she does better..and maybe the spots are just some injuries she got inthe hose

I'm so sorry, Muffy, you and your poor baby.

The white couldn't be fungus if it happened during her unfortunate trip through the hose.

Rose or Dave can help you further, but in the mean time, keep her comfortable and of course her water pristine to prevent infection. If you have Vita-Chem and Fish Protector, that would help.

Is she swimming and acting normally?

Edit: Thanks Shawnie, I forgot about the garlic.

She's gone, thank you all who have tried to help and to those who will read this later and would have had good suggestions too. I'm going to go cry for a bit and then see what happens.

I'm terribly sorry Muffy. What an awful feeling to lose your babies; I have lost some recently myself, it's horrible.

As Shawnie said, don't be too hard on yourself for it. Things like this happen, and your little fishy would forgive you.

Inquisitive little bettas!

I know how you feel. I also sucked up my little girlie in the siphon and she was injured quite badly as the hose edge cut her behind her head.

She was lucky and survived, but I felt simply horrible for doing that to her.

I'm terribly sorry yours didn't make it.

Awww Muffy, I am so sorry that you lost her. I actually lost one of my little girlies to the exact same thing. Please don't think that it is your fault. This happens to lots of people.
