Very pretty betta...and I find petsmart and petco have been getting nicer bettas lately...I got my male deltatail at petco and my crowntail at petsmart...my female I got at walmart. I wonder if this is cuz breeders are culling them out in there bid for perfection and instead of destroying them they sell them as pets??

Hi Val,
Thank you for the kind words. I got him about a month or so ago.

Thanks. I couldn't believe it when I found him. One of the Petcos near me has great bettas. The rest of them have bettas that are in pretty bad shape. I don't know why this one in particular gets really nice ones in...

Thanks. I had to name him Dumbledore because I am such a big Harry Potter fan. I know, its nerdy, but I love it anyways!

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. I think that a lot of the bettas that I am starting to see at Petco are show quality bettas with tiny imperfections that makes it harder for the breeders to sell them. I am glad that they are selling them as pets, cause it works out well for us

I feel it is wrong to cull ( destroy) a healthy fish ( dog , cat , hamster...horse...lol get the idea?)of any sort , just because it isn't perfect. I think that the average household pet fish owner will not care if a fish has a curled fin or a blotchy pattern on it as long as it is hardy and healthy stock. If there is a market out there for cull fish then why not use it....just my opinion...lol

Considering the fact that 5 of my boys came from Petsmart and Petco I have to agree there is a market for these pets.....Will, Kix, Dunn, Jagger and Lenox all came from those stores and are the picture of health.....

I completely agree. I think it is so sad when animals are killed due to imperfections. I found out that boxers can be born white, but apparently to breeders it is an undesirable trait. Some breeders actually drown the white puppies because they are not "show quality". My sister did a research paper on this (regarding animal rights) and when she told me about it I was so sad. Those puppies would have made great pets for people. I think that when people kill off animals due to undesirable physical characteristics, it is comparable to what Hitler did in the Holocost.......but I won't go into detail about that here.

I agree with you too My bettas from the LFS and Petco are actually way healthier than the ones that I ordered off of Aquabid from a betta breeder.

You guys are right about petsmart and petco. I went their tonight to get a couple of delta tail guppies for my tank and i saw a beautiful crown tail male betta. I walked out with two guppies and a betta who I put into a clean, unused, 1g flower vase. I named him Neptune because he thinks he's the king of the sea.

Congrats on your new betta! You will have to make a thread with pictures of Neptune. I'll bet he's gorgeous!
