There have been several posts about this lately, and while I have never had a female, the general concensus is that it may work for a while, or it may work in some cases, but your best bet is to either not try it or to make sure that you have other tanks to move them in to should trouble develop.

The answer is NO! Don't even bother trying unless you have a back up tank ready for when you have to pull one out due to fighting...

It rarely works out and I'd not recommend putting Betta Splendens together. It's just not in their natural instincts.

The only way it can work i if you have a big tank like a 33g+ with 12 or more in it. Lots of plants and hiding spots. The same idea as some African cichlid species. Overcrowding spreads out the aggression. A few people I know have had them for years...but they only keep betta tho.
This is NOT a beginners tank I would not recommend the average fish keeper doing it.
