Betta with manners?

I was recently reading another thread about aggresive bettas and was wondering if my betta is really a betta lol just kidding but he seems odd

I have him in a 25 gallon community tank with 6 ottos 4 guppies 2 juvenile cories, numerous guppy fry, and 1 pleco (yes, I know he will get really big and I plan to move him soon).

BUT the point is that he doesn't bother anyone no fin nipping, or eating other tank mates haha

is something wrong with him or do people just misinterpret bettas as an aggressive species??

Austin...

Betta fish as you know all have their own personalities...Some are aggressive (most of them) and a few are mellow and peaceful...Your boy sounds like a very mellow boy....You are LUCKY! I only have 1 boy that has that sweet nature and that is "WILL"...

The answer to your question I have to say is YES they are aggressive by nature...

thanks for the reply I guess I am lucky I can put him with other fish because I think he loves the big tank he is in compared to if I put him in a ten gallon or god forbid, a BOWL D:

We have a range of personalities in ours.. from fiesty Mickey who loves to attack his bubbles and flare to Teddy Bear who's extremely mild mannered and totally a lover, not a fighter.

We have a male betta splenden in a 55g community tank and he does fine... except for flaring at ramshorn snails.

Betta splendens have been domesticated and bred for over 1000 years, much in the same way pitbulls have... for aggression. You get some bettas that are nearly fearless and will flare at any and everything and you get some that are scaredy-cats and everything inbetween.

Yeah Bettas are all very different. I had one male (Dorado...RIP) who was so sweet I put him in with my dwarf cories & bamboo shrimp. I never saw him flare, except once or twice at his own reflection. But then you'll get some Bettas who are just plain vicious.

My one male bettas' best friend is an albino pleco!! He gets so upset if I move the pleco to another tank. They chase eachother around & lay in their cave together, it's so cute.
