feeling really guilty
ok today i went to the lps to get some stuff while hanging out with my friend who wants to get a betta for herself. well we were checking them out when i noticed 1 bowl empty so i started looking around the floor and there he layed dead. thats not the worst part when i went for a closer look i noticed he had been stepped on. i freaked and checked my shoe and there was a fish shaped wet mark.
i was horrified my friend tried to convince me that he was probably dead before i got there but its not doesnt make me feel any better; i hope it is true cause at least he'd be spared the pain. that is not the way to go.
out of shear guilt i bought the saddest looking one there, when i wasnt even going to get one. hopefully i can give this one a good life.his tail looks like something was chewing on him.
still feel rotten.

That must've been awful. I cant believe it though, we step on someones hand, we apologize, and its like nothing ever happened. Step on a fish or a cats tail or a dogs paw and we feel ashamed for the next month and a half. Why is that I wonder?

OMG...I'm so sorry for you and the poor Betta,It probably was already dead on the floor like your friend said....don't beat yourself up about it,you didn't do it on purpose,And you rescued one to make up for it
Do you have pic's of your new baby? How about a name?

Because the owner of that hand can except the apology and know you didn't mean to hurt them- animals can't do this.
I'm sure you freaked out! WOW! but don't be too hard on yourself, fish aren't suppose to be in the floor.

trying to find my camera, think my brother borrowed it. he's white in the body and mostly blue tail eyes to match if all goes well and his tail grows back he should be quite handsome.
i put him in my 1 gal bowl by my pc so i can keep an eye on him. soaked some worms in garlic guard so he would eat, but he's still at the bottom of the tank.
if he get pass the first 3 weeks ill get him one of those bookshelf tanks everyone is talking about.keep ur fingers crossed
psst i think he's growing on me

Congrats on the new betta, he sounds pretty. He'd heal a lot quicker in a heated filtered tank.
Not going to comment on the fish shaped wet mark.

Accidents happen. Part of life. There's no way you can be sure it was alive when you stepped on it. As Butterfly (Carol) says, fish are not supposed to be in the floor, to begin with.
Good thing is you rescued this guy! I think you could get the Bookshelf tank 'cause with your care, it's likely he's going to make it!

Don't worry, you didn't mean to do it. I know its still natural to feel bad, but just remember that it wasn't intentional. I am so happy that you rescued that new guy. He is very lucky to have you. Does he have a name?

Congrats on the new guy. If you have even a small tank that can have a heater and filter, i'd move him into that to help heal the tail. Either way, I'd use Prime & Fish Protector for conditioning the water and do 50% daily water changes. It sounds like he could have bacterial fin rot, so as soon as possible, you'd want to move him to a tank with 5 or 10g of water.. if you used a bookshelf tank, just put 5g of water in it. That will make it easier to treat with Triple Sulfa and Rid-Fungus.
