New hex 5 tank

I bought the hex 5 tank from petco because of the awesome price. I was thinking of putting Copernicus in there with some ghost shrimp but he showed me last night that he doesn't get along with them. What if I put him in a tank with two ottos? The hex would be lightly planted. I know its not the best shape or tank for a betta but the price was right.

They usually get along quite well with otos but you will want to watch for chasing and bad behavior. The otos are quicker and can get away from the betta so don't worry about them but be sure to provide live plants as they do not do well in tanks without at least one live plant for some reason and please do remember to quarantine them before adding them to your tank if possible. We really do need to observe the quarantine process now more than ever.

Yea, I'd agree with Rose. While the Otos are in quarantine, try to get them used to going to a veggie clip to munch on a slice of cucumber or zucchini. Algae wafers can get stolen by naughty Bettas and Copernicus would be more at risk of getting constipated from eating one.

So you would recommend trying a couple of otto's with a betta in a 5 gal hex? I have thought about trying this in Billy Voltaire's tank, but I was afraid it would be too crowded...

It's slightly overstocking, but should be ok with regular maint., including 40% water changes with the weekly cleaning.. and just keep an eye on water parameters with testing.
