Today has been a very good day
A few good things to report about today. For starters, I believe my mother on the path of becoming a betta mommy. I often find her watching my little killifish growing up and often catch her talking to my betta girls in the early morning while she sits and eats her breakfast. I've had to becareful with my betta names so not only could my family remember them, but also pronouce them. Today we stopped by a petco about an hour away while we were out. Mostly just to look at the kitty section and to see if the lady that worked their back in 2001 was still there (we wanted to rub it in her face that our second youngest kitty does very well with other cats - she almost didn't let us adopt him). I had to stop and look at the bettas, they just drew me in. While I did that my mother wandered off and ended up picking a betta care book. She plans on reading it over the weekend while she's out of state - I'm hoping she comes back and asks me to help her get a tank set up ^_^ She's weak when it comes to animals!
But there's still more good news! I found yet another adorable little betta girl. A lovely, tiny white crowntail with blue speckles and a little light purple along her tail. I tried getting a few shots but no luck. She's currently floating in a critter carrier in my 75g until I can pick up another tank (I'm broke else I would of picked up one of those bookshelf tanks at petco). I named this little girl Lin, after the washer girl from Spirited Away.
And there is still more good news! All the male bettas were so beautiful and at first I couldn't pick between a nice steel blue delta or a black and white crowntail but them I saw him. Poor little red with most of his tail and fins gone due to finrot. I'm thankful he was the only one there that didn't look in tip top shape but I couldn't leave him. His little cup wasn't labled - all the other males went from $8 -14 but the girl gave him to me for $4. Needless I was very happy since I was limiting myself to only spending $10.
The little guy danced for me the whole time, until he saw Lin in my other hand ^^; As soon as I got home I set up my old 5g. I'm glad I held onto those flat marbles because they go with him perfectly - mix of clear and shades of red. He looked like he was getting antsy so I went ahead and let him go in the 5g about two hours ago. The filter is filled with media from my 75g and I've got prime, ich attack and stress coat in there. I looked for vita-chem at petco, petsmart, walmart (I had to get more flat marbles anyways) and my lfs but I haven't been able to find any. I wasn't sure if ich attack would help any but it shouldn't hurt, right? I've never used stress coat before but I have heard mention of it around here and it was the only thing I could find that might help. I did sneak him a bloodworm soaked in garlic guard - I try not to feed anyone til the next day but he was just looking at me and I swear I heard him bubble "Love & Peace". So of course I had to name him Vash, my little Sixty Billion Double Dollar Betta.
All in all a good day I say. Another adorable betta girl, my first betta boy and the signs of another fish addict in the family. I could of planned better on Lin's part - she's so tiny right now and both Talho and Misa are hardly much longer than her so I could of done a temp 3-way. But with the virus I'll stick to having to take extra care with the critter carrier until I can get a tank.
