torn tail

When I got Othello last Saturday he had a small tear in his tail, so I added some vita chem to his tank. It wasn't getting better so I added some garlic guard after a few days. But the tear still hasn't healed and it now seems to be getting a little larger so I'm worried that fin rot may have started.

I have vita chem, garlic guard, and rid fungus, but I don't want to treat with rid fungus as he's in a divided tank. I can put him in Toby's 5 gallon and move Toby into the divided tank if neccesary.

With vita chem and garlic guard, how much can I add at a time and how often should I add it? Would it be best to move him into the 5 gallon and start treatment with rid fungus right away or give the vita chem and garlic guard a few more days?

Do you have a pic that you could post? Sometimes tears like that are slow or hard to heal due to fin movement, but keeping up with the water being extra clean and the vitachem, fish protector and garlic guard will aid the eventual healing. Mickey had a dorsal fin tear that I thought would never heal, but it finally did.. just took a couple months to start coming back together.

Please post a photo of him...You know both my boys Crush and Patron are dealing with tail issues right now...I have them on trisulpha....It has not got any worse since starting the meds but I don't see healing yet either....

Here is a photo of crush's tail......Does it look like this?

And Patrons you can see on the top left of this photo...I'm wondering if it was caused from stress.......

Here's Othello's tail today

And here's what it looked like last Saturday when I got him

It does look quite a bit like Crush's tail. Othello is the only one having fin problems; my other new bettas are doing fine.

Is he eating and acting normal? It looks identical to what both my boys have....I have had them on the trisulpha for 6 days.....It hasn't improved but it hasn't gotten worse either....I'm waiting for my fish protector, garlic guard and vita chem to arrive...

What are you doing for his tail?

Hmm.. I think that he doesn't have fin rot at this point. Fish protector, vita-chem and garlic guard can not only help his fin tear heal, but improve the chances of him not getting fin rot. Extra water changes would help too.
