Crystal

Well after searching all over the net for a name for the new little girl ( and not finding one...lol) the right name just popped into my head...She is now officially known as ...( drum roll please)....Crystal. She is just a bitty thing a little bigger than a neon tetra.

A very lovely little girl! Hello, Crystal, you do look just like one you know? You are stunning. You are also very young to be that size.

She will need special foods for her dietary requirements at that age. She is going to need Atison's Betta Pro formula pellets for her diet as she is so young. The other foods will be for older fish and not provide the nutrients she needs in the right amounts for her tummy to hold enough to keep her growing and healthy.

At that age and stage she should probably get 3 small Pro pellets 3 times a day for meals and pea treats (a small chunk or two half the size of her eye not given at mealtimes) twice a week or so. There should be at least 2 hours between peas and mealtimes as it will be too much for her tummy. Her tummy is only the size of her eye and she cannot hold it all and overstuffing is dangerous for little bettas. (or bettas of any size)

Congratulations on your finds, hers of you and yours of her. The best days are when there are new babies in the house.

Thx for the info. I have very tiny pellets here hbh betta bites and they are to big for her. I have been giving her bettamin flakes crushed fairly small but will look for the pro food you recommended. All the bettas in the store had about 12 or more huge pellets on the cup along with a dozen or so blood worms that were just rotting...the cups were foul and smelly and you could hardly see the fish. I am surprised that she looks so healthy and am keeping a good eye on here. She is so much more active than my 2 males.

The problem with flake food and bettas is that most of it is made of stuff that is very constipating to bettas and you must be very cautious and especially with a tiny betta...doesn't take much. So if you must feed flake food watch the amounts very closely. No more than one tiny piece at a meal.

It is much cheaper at drsfostersmith.com but petsmart does carry it on the web anyway. I do not know if they have it in their stores. It is not the easiest thing to find as a lot of owners do not want to buy it as it comes in such a large package but this is the smallest one it comes in but it can be used by all the bettas, you just have to feed the older ones more of it. The pellets are very small and can be used by any betta baby old enough to be sold. This makes it appropriate for any betta you will ever own. So many of the foods sold on the shelves are not really appropriate for any betta mouth let alone a baby so I would heartily recommend that any owner of bettas own this. If you know someone else who owns bettas the lovely thing to do would be see if you could share a tub of the stuff and share the cost too. It is easily enough for two owners and it would defray the expense but if not it is still worth the cost to keep your bettas healthy.
