Sir Royal Blue's New House!

Our original tank for Royal had a glass in it, as suggested by the lady at the LFS. He didn't seem to be diggin it too much, so the other day at PetSmart, i got him this little house. I think he LOVES IT!

Cool!! he should like that as long as there aren't any parts to rip his fins up. Just rub the ornament if something feels sharp, use sand paper to dull it.

They do love things with lots of holes for them to go in and out of and the general rule is if your thumb goes in and out of the hole then he can too without getting stuck. We usually say take a nylon stocking and rub over it and if they stocking snags then it needs to be sanded a bit but those things are generally made to be used with fish and mostly do not have rough edges. Just watch close and if he does not seem to have any little snags he will be fine. I had one of those barrel type things one time in a smaller tank and the fish played for hours in it. They love that kind of thing. They love to find new ways of going through it. Congratulations on finding a new occupation for Sir Royal!

yep, when we first got it, Rick checked it for smoothness. then he put it in there and he said Royal Blue, instantly went in and out of every single hole!

When you notice that he is getting a little less enchanted with it, just move it to another area of the tank or turn it in a different direction and you will be surprised. It will be just like it is a new toy all over again. They do not take much to make it a whole new thing. This is why Dave gets the long snakey like air wands that bend. He can bend them in new shapes every time he does a water change and the bettas think they have a new playground. Or if you lay something over on its side that he has been used to having standing up it will have him going for sure. They can spend hours investigating a new change in the decor and all you have to do is move the things that were already there. They are funny fish for sure. But they have to make sure you really haven't put something in there they haven't seen yet...

Yea, I change around the tank decor each week ever since Rose brought up how they'd enjoy exploring the changes.

Royal Blue looks so pleased with himself!
My betta David Bowie is waiting out the last few days before he gets to go home from the hospital tank (poor little guy had ich,) now I think I should reward him with a new toy for all his patience in that plain old bowl! He sure is getting restless now that he's feeling better.
Cool photos!
