Floyd's new decor

Just redid Floyd's tank. I made the cave by siliconing gravel onto a glass candle holder. (new, unused and washed well) He seems to like it . I also upgraded Blue from a 1 1/2 gallon tank to a 5 gal hex . I havn't decorated it yet ..have to make his cave...lol then will post a pic of it.

Oh how cute that is! I want one of those caves! What an adorable idea! I wonder if you could make one out of the flat marbles?

I would think you could make it out of any "fish safe" media. It really is cute and he goes in it and looks all around. If I go up to the tank while he is in there he comes out and the little booger head flares at me..."This is MY cave"...lol. Make sure you get aquarium safe silicone and let it cure for at least 2 days after you have finished it.

It is about 3 1/2 to 4 inches square. I got it at walmart for about $1 or $1.50. I have a smaller about 3 inch round one I am going to use for Blue. That is a 5gallon hex tank same as you got, I got mine at Walmart for $30 . I liked this one so much ( I got it a few weeks ago) that I got Blue one last night . You can use whatever shape or size that suits you or your tank / decor. The first thing I did was make it sit level on the side I wanted as a bottom. You can only do so much at a time as then the gravel starts to fall off..lol. Let it set up for an hour of 2 then go back at it again. One thing I like about it is that it not only does it give him a little private place to go if he wants shade from the light or just wants to feel he is in a smaller place ...it also gives him another level to sit in shallower water if he is tired .

Oh no no no... I already have a hard time with "collecting" glass vases and candle holders (I swear, one day I will finish painting the lot I have). I think I'm going to have to give this a try to kind of empty out my stash - wonderful idea ya got there.

Very cool idea. I can see myself going out and getting a bunch of stuff to make 5 little caves.

The cave looks awesome! I've been using those candle holders for caves in my betta tanks, but I never thought to put the gravel on them to make them look more natural, what a great idea!!
