HELP!! I think I'm in trouble ><

My two girls Lady Lune, and Lady Sidereal are both incredibly bloated for the third time since I've had them.. and it hasn't been that long at all!

Their bellies are just ... huge..

The first two times I've fed them peas, and they passed whatever was in em, and they seemed fine. BUT here we are.. AGAIN.. with the enormous bellies and frankly they just look like they're gonna pop!
I really need some feedback on this.

Their poo looks normal, they act normal, colors are great, lots of swimmy swimmy... Water's fine, changed it yesterday in fact.. I just.. DON'T know..

Help! *whimper*

Hello Wolfy
your betta's sure do look bloated and ready to pop! You mentioned that it has happened three times already and a Pea diet has helped them.
I am wondering what your feeding routine is with them? How many times a day... and how much and what are you feeding them at each meal?
It seems that you may be feeding them too much at each meal... is that possible?

The ladies get half as much at meal time than the boys do, just because of sheer size difference.

I think I might try to fast them a day or so and see what happens.

I got advice from someone who thought they looked eggy, and reccomended to put a male betta near them, to possibly help expel the eggs.

I did that after I posted here last night, and so far nothing has changed, save for a few bubble nests hehe.

Short of the fasting, I really don't know what to do, I'm baffled

Hi Wolfy, poor babies, I hope they get to feeling better soon.

I'm going to throw some questions out here.

Kate has already asked, what are you feeding them, how much and how often?

I looked at your aquarium info, it lists a 5g, are the girls together?

You said your water is fine, Are you testing your water? If so what are the readings for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates?

It also says you don't know about the nitrogen cycle, is the tank cycled?
Here's a good article to read: http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

Do you have a heater? What's the temp. of their water?

This information might help others help you figure out why your girls keep getting bloated.

Good luck to you and Lady Lune, and Lady Sidereal.

They are just ready to be moms. The fatness comes & goes. But for the most part females are Chubbettas. I was worried about my Holly for bit then I just realized she is chubby. I'd fast them for a day or so to see if that makes any difference. When they are full of eggs the belly doesn't have as much room for food.

When I had my female bettas, they all got like this. It was eggs! One of them decided to make her own nest of them, too- I think because she was in a divided tank with a male on the other side. I went to fish her out and she literally popped out eggs everywhere once.

It's kind of alarming to see!

She hid her nest behind the in-tank filter, and when I moved it to the other side, her husband wanna be did the same thing, picking up eggs that passed through the divider.

... they really really wanted to be parents O.o

Oh yea- mine were a mix of CT and non-CT's

Totally off topic here, but WolflyFinesse, happen to be a White Wolf fan?
I've been wondering because of your avatar name, and now your fishes' names really make me curious.

If your females are all together or with other fish then the bigger girls are eating everyone else's food.

What do you feed them? We had one of our female's get bloated like that because she was in a 10 gal with a few other fish and ate a TON of flake food. While she was on a diet of 2-3 Hikari Betta Bio-Gold Pellets 2-3 times a day, she was perfectly fine. When we had to do a bit of tank juggling and she was in with one of our cory cats, she ate all of his food (sinking wafers) and got bloated so once again some more tank juggling had to happen. We let her fast for at least three days when she got that big, giving her a tiny bit of pea or daphnia on the fourth day and a little more each day after that. She's finally back to normal size!

If your girls are with other fish, I'd suggest that you separate them somehow.

This is a pretty old thread, I'm sure the issue has been resolved otherwise the OP would have continued this thread.
