I'll hijack this thread all the way back to Petco where I went today and bring home all of the little betta babies I had to leave behind...

OK, back to the beautiful betta find! I can't believe it only cost $2.99! I pay around $7.00 here for a nice Betta. |

Pouty lips or batting eyes usually work for me too.  I am still working on my bf so I can get the gold CT pair not just the male.
If I find a double tail that looks like your anywhere I'd being bring her/him home immediately. |

Well you can do what I did compare the flare and the reaction to another betta. I took a betta I knew for sure was a female in a cup put it in the tank for about 30 minutes while I tore down her tank. The next day my supposed female built a huge nest. I know females do build nest but usually not this big. Then the next week I had to do a complete tear down of a males tank, put him in a cup inside the tank the same way.. I put him in and the supposed female started flaring and wanting to fight. Silly little boy hasn't built another bubble nest. I guess he is happy being a bachelor. I am thinking yours is a male too but I have been wrong before. Always make sure the cup is well covered.

Shawnie, you can always create a poll with the stipulation that if people vote, they must give their reasons why they think it's male or female. I thought it was a plakat, but I don't know anything about identifying types of betta.

I'd go with Dave I am don't know as much as he does about betta. I will post his or her pix on the betta site I frequent. |
