My 4 Girls, newest pictures
I finally got a picture of Halley that shows her unusual metallic look that has eluded my previous attempts to photograph. I think this is the first picture of Jane I've posted on here. Drew is shown here hunting for lost bloodworms, it is very funny watching them all poke down into the micro sword looking for food. This picture of Angelina has been posted before, but I included it to complete the set. This tank actually seems pretty sparse especially when they are all wandering through the plants.

They get along great, I often see they all sitting around together, especially when they are on the surface. Every once in a while one will get an attitude and flare, generally Angelina, who is apparently the alpha-female, but the other will generally take off and dive into the plants and that is the end of it. They will fight when it comes to food, and for awhile I was feeding them individually, but they started fighting when I was doing this. So now I make sure whatever I feed them gets scattered around the aquarium, preferably sinking. This way there is no particular food source to fight over, and this has totally eliminated the fighting over food. It makes for a little entertainment because it is amusing watching them hunt around the tank looking through the plants for their dinner.
Based on my personal experience, and my research, I would suggest at least 4 girls (I am considering getting 1 or 2 more). I also think a planted tank is necessary, as well as enough room that if there is a confrontation they have a option of running and hiding. It is also reasonably likely that you might get a particularly aggressive female that cannot be kept in a sorority tank and will have to be given her own tank.
The first few days are hard to watch, because they will fight a lot and there will probably be injuries. I think that any attempt of human interference at this stage just aggravates the problems. They simply need to establish their pecking order. When I first had fish, I had Platies and they did the same thing, I ignorantly kept trying to mess with the process by "incarcerating" the "mean" fish. Of course when I put him back in it started all over from the beginning.
But I haven't seen a real fight in my tank since perhaps the 3rd day. There were a few moments during feeding time, but once I started making sure there was food all over the tank I haven't even seen that. Their normal behavior is quite the opposite, they swim together, rub noses, sometimes even surface and float against each other in almost an affectionate way.
When I added the fourth girl, there was never an incident at all.

I had my sorority tank go quite well for 2 months...my Holly got aggressive with the other girls. I think most b/c they were weak fish all died of tumors. Holly bullied them into hiding. Until one by one each girl died on me. I hope you have better luck. Most people fail unless the tank is huge and planted to death.

They're beautiful. Drew seems to remind me of my Talho, always poking aroudn the gravel for more food. I hope everything continues to work out for your girls.
Martinismommy: We're on the same wave-length, I want to put my girls together so I don't have to clean that awful 5g anymore hehe. My girls are each differant colors so it would be a nice sight to see /dreams

I would assume that taking adults that have been alone for a very long time would probably result in more issues.
