Betta and Red Eared Slider in one tank??

I have a betta and a red eared slider, I was going to get a small tank for each now I think maybe they can get along in one medium tank with a good filter. At least their temperature range have a big overlap. the only thing that I'm concerned about is that the slider is a careless swimmer and might accidentally tear betta's fins with it's claws.
What do you think?

I think it's probably one of the worst ideas I have ever heard.

Not to be rude to you or anything but the betta will die if you do this. There is no way around it.

Not a good idea. Betta I am sure have much different living conditions than RES. Turtles are much dirtier than Betta.

Have to add my vote with the other two. Your betta will be ripped up (not accidentally either) and perhaps eaten by your turtle. Young sliders in particular are quite carnivorous.

They also need large tanks, heavy filtration and places to get out of the water and bask.

Actually, the biggest problem I see, besides your Betta maybe becoming Turtle food, is that Turtles are also notorous for carrying worms. I didn't know it until I saw it, and believe me, you're better off if I don't describe it in detail! lol

My wifes red eared slider is a monster...

Anything that's in that tank is food in the turtles eyes. And I mean anything... I have sen the turtle eat the rocks on more than one occasion.

As your turtle grows you will need to put a lot of work into keeping its tank clean. Or money into very good filters.

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank with an aquaclear HOB filter running full bore all the time. I took the strainer off of the filter and even modified it a little bit to increase the water flow.. Dirty turtles they are.. LOL!!
