Lucas, the betta is a little piggy...

Wow, hes really taking a liking to his new home... as soon as I got up this morning and turned on his light he met me at the front of his tank... then he was waiting on food... he really loves the pellets that I give him... wait he loved the bloodworms too... I am going to get him some freshpeas here as soon as they start coming in the garden, and then freezing some to last for months so I have plenty (there are no pesticides, etc in them so I feel safer using them)
Im so glad I got a betta now, my husband kept saying they just sit in a tank and do nothing, I guess he was used to seing them in a little cup... my little guy is all over his tank. I guess thats a sign of good health.
Today is waterchange day for my fish, so he will get a good water change too... his first since I brought him home... I hope he adjust to the biweekly python in his tank lol...

Bettas are unusual in the fact that they don't seem bothered by vacuuming the tank, or if you put your hands in there for something. In fact they can be a pain because they are so curious they get in the way.

well, I cleaned his tank.. he didn't mind it a bit, in fact he kept swimming around the vaccum... very curious little guy..

I also fed him some pea for the first time today... he really went for it, as soon as it hit the water! My mom came over and saw him, she said, I want to borrow him for a little while... I said why? she said to breed... hes just beautiful! I said hes not leaving his tank! Shes dying to get one his color now to breed w/ her pinkish female...

Oh please tell her that it is a bad idea unless you have a lot of equipment and money for it. Breeding betta splendens is a big production and dangerous to the fish. Many people lose their breeding pairs to injury or even killing each other over the experience. It is really something best left to the professionals.

She is actually raising fry and doing well w/ them, they are about 6 weeks old, they are all sold to people that my stepdad works w/ too. She has a fishstore that is wanting her to supply to him, she is breeding crowntails. However, shes not getting her hands on lucas!!! I know the danger that could come to him! My stepdad does daily waterchanges in 30+ little tanks a day when he comes home from work, plus has to take care of his other tanks... and their bunny (hes just too cute, they are about an inch away from giving him up, my hands are open!! hes a spoiled indoor bunny that is litter trained)

Anyways... heres a pic of lucas, its the first one I have took of him...

Thanks.. Hes so funny... hes already getting used to the "feeding sced" he knows when I pick up the food (all the fish food canisters are by his tank even the cichlids food) he races to the top and front...
Hes even built a bubble nest? I guess thats a sign of a happy fish? My husband doens't like bettas, he keeps saying he looks strange...I honestly think hes just not used to fish... and the guppies had to grow on him, then we got the cichlids... and now I have my betta... it will grow on him...
