I am finally posting pics of my Mother's Day present - my first betta, "Billy Voltaire the piano player up from Miami way." (I let my crazy husband name him!) Billy is starting to come out of his shell, and I am really happy with my new addition.

pretty! I got a 5g tank for mothers day, for my first betta... I am going to try to escape to get him tomm... I swear the thought of a pea puffer crossed my mind...
Then I said to myself no!!! I have it ready for a betta and thats what I am buying!!!
I was going to get one of my mothers baby bettas, however I am going to do a betta rescue from a lfs... moms baby bettas are accounted for w/ good fishkeepers wanting one...

hes an amazingly handsome boy!! congrats on your first man..watch out its a terribly addicting disease with no cure to have more!!!!!!!! congrats!! and also, just a lil tidbit I learned, not that he will do it tho, keep that opening of the fish bowl totally open..without rocks, marbles, etc, because my rafikki couldnt figure how to get out of it when I had all the stuff at the opening with just a small area to crawl thru or layered inside the bowl...its so see thru that he kept banging off the top of it to try to get out..i ended up taking most of the rocks and marbles out so he is smart now ..either that or he had such a headache he couldnt stand it

Thanks for all of the compliments, guys! He is pretty tiny right now, but I think he will grow in to his name. I swore at first that we were going to change it, but now I am used to it. I don't even just call him Billy, it is always Billy Voltaire...

He was REALLY shy at first and usually ran away when we came in to the room, but now is right there when I am talking to him. I walked in last night and he was flairing - it freaked me out at first because it was the first time I had seen it. I am new to this betta thing!

Don't worry Shawnie, there are only a few marbles in the very bottom of that vase. They don't block the opening at all. Thanks for the tip though!
