This morning I noticed Jasper wasn't his usual feisty self. He has fin rot & bad this time. He looks like he has a fungus going on. His reddish coloring is really dull, he's got stress bars & he is just staying in one place at the top of the tank. He still has what looks to me like a tumor growing out above his right gill plate. He has had this bump for months without too much issues. (I am betting this is the cause to his fin rot issues) He looks OLD, I bet he is. He was full size when I got him in September. So who knows what his age he could be?
I am REALLY getting sick of having sick betta. Especially when I have been taking extra care with Jasper b/c of his fin rot issues. Grr!!

I know it is hit or miss with lfs betta. Over the past 2 years I have had 18 betta all but 3 were lfs. My 2 female CTs I had in 2006 were from Thailand. A local seller would buy them online and sell them. I wasn't really into betta at the time so I sold them a few month later to a guy who wanted to breed them. Casper I got from AB last month.
The rest who passed away were from the same lfs. I had 3 female CTs who were full of tumors, a male with a tumor and the rest died of some sort of disease my second betta died of ich, no one told me they needed heaters The longest I have had a betta live was my first one, Nigel who I had for just over a year. He was my LEARNING betta. I am surprised he lived as long as he did.
A few months later I joined Fish Lore, a few weeks later I got Jasper. Listened to what everyone here has told me in how to care for betta and been taking care of my betta much better. Proper filters, heaters, substrate, additives for their water, meds and water changes.
I am so frustrated!
He really isn't looking good. I sent the bf to go get meds a few minutes ago. Triple sulfa worked well last time...it better this time. I am not in the mood to lose another favorite betta. Say a little prayer for Jasper tonight all. My boyfriend says this is the worst he has looked yet. I am scared he may not make it this time.

Jasper and you will both feature fully in my thoughts and prayers until I hear that the need is over, Allie. I do worry about all the little ones who need special attention and care as if they were my own.

Take care and try not to stress too much. It does not help the fish and it does horrible things to you.

I got the triple sulfa in his tank. He didn't like that too much. He ate 2 pellets...I wanted to see if he would eat, he did. About the only good thing about the situation is he still has his appetite. But I am not feeding tomorrow at all. His body still pale, not red at all. This worries me. He is lethargic, but will come to me if I get his attention. I turned off the filter. He is just floating around sometimes. He doesn't look good and I am not sure what to expect in the morning.

He does show some good signs there with having appetite and responding to you. I'm not sure if he's an elderly Betta or had constipation, but you have him on the best meds for fin rot and he's getting his love & attention. He's got the best of care and I know he feels loved. I pray you find him feeling better in the morning.

Oh Allie I am so sorry to hear that. We all know what you are going through. It is weird how so much love can quickly turn into so much heartache.

He isn't looking any better. I had to turn of the filter the flow from the air pump was making fly around. I don't think he's going to make it. When I put in his 2nd dose of meds...he sunk sideways to the bottom for a minutes then came back up. It's not looking good unfortunely.

He is isn't doing well at all right now. He keeps tipping to the left & sinking. Then something will startle him, he'll swim up for air.
I think he is only his last legs Poor Jasper.
