Java Moss is easy to keep and I have heard from other betta lovers that betta really enjoy having it in their tank. It makes for a comfy bed, and its nice and soft for them to swim through.

In most of my betta tanks I have java moss, java fern, marimo balls, and anubia. Some type of floating plant like red rooted floater, duckweed, salvina oblong, frog bit or water lettuce. I do have a couple of stem plants growing some type of hydro, najas, pearlweed and rotala. I have 17 bettas so I have a chance to experiment with substrate as well as plants. I am really terrible at pictures!!

Thanks for all your advice. Java moss and java fern is really beautiful, I will think them, if I don't find water lily. But what about the water lily, is there anyone who had it before or has now? Where can I find it and how can I keep it in my aquarium? Which properties (size, heat,.. etc.) does my aquarium have ?

The water lilies that my LFS I don't know what requirements they need since they are big. Here might be an option for a purple flowering plant http://www.plantgeek.net/plant-228.htm I don't know where to find it.

Does anyone recommend an on-line source for Java Moss or Java Fern? The local Petco has java fern but I'm kind of afraid to buy things from them. Could their plants have a disease that my betta could catch?

I felt the same way, not trusting local stores for Java Moss. I bought mine on e-Bay. I just checked and unfortunately the seller (who I recommend) does not have any items for sale at this time.
It arrived in a tightly packed ball, very carefully packed. Guaranteed snail free. One thing I found was that many sellers pack "FREE bonus" snails with their Java Moss.
Even so, I put the Java Moss into a diluted solution of bleach for a few days just to make sure there were no nasty bacteria or snails riding along with it, kept the moss in a cup with water in a window, then rinsed and rinsed it, with a final rinse of used aquarium water before putting it into the tank. It's flourishing and beautiful!

Thanks for the tip-i wonder if the bleach solution would kill the bad stuff on the Petco java moss/fern? Probably, but I'll search online first. I'm amazed that plants can be shipped without dying?
I will say that I've come across 1-2 ok petco employees that actually seem to know what they are talking about-but that's only their "fish experts"-the regular employees all give me different advice.

I suppose the bleach solution would kill the bad stuff. I still didn't trust the chain store java moss, though, because at the only place I could find it, it looked kind of brownish as I recall.
The java moss I ordered from eBay arrived in a small insulated envelope and was moist and healthy. It might have had a small insert to help keep it moist, can't remember.

I get most of my plants from the forums, they are better quality. Most plants are shipped priority and only take a couple of days to get here. I don't mind the free snails if I notice my snails trying to get out I know I better check my water because something is off they seem to be more sensitive than the fish.
