Dave's Betta Teddy Bear is a Feathered Betta They are a newer type of Rosetail offshoot being developed according to the page that I found in the stickied topics. The tail is evidently beginning to catch on as a help to the fish to help them be able to deal with the extra heavy weight of the halfmoon finnage. Some of the halfmoon species have been having difficuties with the fins collapsing under the weight so they are coming up with this as an answer to this problem in the Rosetail species.

I think they are fantastically gorgeously beautiful!

What a handsome boy he was. I love the idea of a "peacock" betta. Thats what he makes me of. I can hardly wait to own one. Actually I've been waiting for dave to send me teddy bear for a while now. He must have forgot since he hasn't arrived yet. :P Just teasing dave.

Where did he find one? Actually I shouldn't ask, since I don't need any more fish!

wow! that's just amazing.

What do "collapsed" fins look like? Can the fish swim after that happens?

The fins get so heavy the fish cannot flare even if they want to. My Alexander was one of the ones who had this problem and his picture is below. He literally had the Classic Rosetail and it was so heavy finned that he was totally unable to raise the fins into a flare. His rays had collapsed with the weight of the finnage. I just let him be but swimming was exhausting for him some of the time as he fought the weight of the fins when he swam sometimes. His fins were huge.

The Feathered fins are an attempt to cut down on the amount of fin tissue on the fish to improve their chance at not having this happen.

Wow, Alex is? was? really beautiful. At least it doesn't make them drown because they can't swim.

I wonder now, Bo is such an active boy but his tail is usually a mess. It'll be beautiful, full of new growth, getting long; I'll go to lunch and when I come back it's shredded. I wonder if he bites it to keep it shorter so it's not as hard to "carry" !?!!
