Yeah, I still haven't named her yet...I just keep referring to her as a "cute little piggie-fish".

I want something short, no more than 2-3 syllables, that fits her personality...I like Japanese names (since they're pretty no matter what they mean), and Akane is one possible name. The up AND downside to it is that I read a manga where that's the name of one of the characters (the downside)...though the personality of the character does fit (the upside). Another Japanese word that would make a fitting name for her is Buta...but I know Rose won't like that one. There's also Kappa, which is another fitting (though not necessarily flattering) name.

Do you all have any favorites, based on the sound of the name and/or the translation? Or any other suggestions?

I cannot BELIEVE that I did it but I voted for Kappa. I was not about to vote for the pig name. She is too sweet a fish for that. No little girl should be called a pig name. But due to your constant description of her personality and her wild surfing and current riding vids I can see her fitting the Kappa name. And I like the sound of it. But I do like the sound of the other name too.

hmmm, ... Kappa reminds me of the cartoon network show Kappa Mikey... Im with Rose on the Pig name, and Akane sounds like a heating unit or something...

What about Daiki.... meaning: (dai) "large, great" combined with (ki) "radiance", or (ki) "valuable, noble

- "I like Akane. Buta and especially Kappa sound too masculine to me."
- "Heh. I forget if Akane is actually used as a name outside of Japanese fiction. Akane is the most femenine sounding of the three choices."

I like Akane too. But I will like whatever you name her. I just have to give you a hard time. Although I really do not think she is a PIG fish.

But she's got a pinkish body and everything! She's just missing the curly tail (thankfully...I don't think that would be a healthy shape for a betta's fins!).

I like all 3 well enough, or I wouldn't have offered them up to a vote in the first place.
