why do people treat "veil tails" like Underirable? I think its a shame, they are just as pretty or prettier than the others...

"not show quality bettas"....

Things seem to shift over time with the tail types that are popular. I think it wasn't too long ago that crowntails weren't 'desirable'. I love our VT Bettas too.

It is not us who makes that determination. Unfortunately the "show quality" types and all are figured by a bunch of folks at the IBC (International Betta Congress) and they determine what types are "show worthy" and what are not. Until not long ago the Combtails were not classed as worthy either but now if they meet about a dozen requiremtents they do fit in the little class they set up. They are betta snobs but be happy as from what I heard Dave say after he was at the shows, the bettas shown are not happy and usually very stressed. So who would want to have them be in one anyway? I think they just need to be home in their tanks where we can love them.

Yea, we're happy to have ours as pets and wouldn't put them through the stress of a show.

They still aren't...see the size of the list on AB for CTs.
I love all betta and will rescue whomever I fall for next.
Betta sp with fancy fins are bred to have nice finnage, kinda man made made compared to the wild. No wonder we have so much trouble keeping them, they really messed with Betta in Thailand.
Have wild betta been easier to keep healthy other than them getting stressed?

One thing I have noticed about my fancier tailed boys is they seem to have more tail issues..Both Patron and Crush had issues..None of my crownies have ever had any sort of health issues (knock on wood) I think the fuller the tail the harder they are to keep..

question: is there a difference between finnage class in the crown tails with a lot of webbing between their rays and those who almost dont have any?

Dave explained it as the crown with less webbing is considered a combtail...My new boy Danny is a combtail....
