Two New Betta's and a very angry husband

Hello my FFS!!! I was at petsmart today. BIG MISTAKE. And I am not aloud out of the house again if I plan on going to a pet store.
I am going to say I saw the male first. And he looked soooo sick. I would say he was sitting in about an inch of very yucky (and chunky) water. I said " get a bag of clean water and put this fish in it NOW!!" and he said "are you taking it mam?" and I said I'm going to have to you don't know anything here. So I took him. He is flesh coloured with lime green fins. He is so young though that I can't tell what kind of fins he has. I would say he is barely past the 6 week mark. His name is Simon.
As I was leaving the store with simon I saw this little female. Same flesh colour with purply green fins. She had her face up to the glass of the tank and there was another female in with her who was nipping at my baby!! So I said " Bag her up". Her name is Morley. I was almost out of the store with them when my husband said " Janice I said we were leaving with no animals!!!" and I turned around and said to the cashier "Is your name Janice?" and she said no, that will be 3.00 please. (they were a buck fifty each). I said OK! My husband didn't speak to me all the way home and he is sooooo mad that when he saw I picked up some 3 gallon tanks to keep them in, He left the house and I havn't seen him since. He was REALLY upset. I don't know why. Sure he said two was enough, and then he kinda didn't know about drew for the first month I had him, and now he loves drew. And Morley is so fiesty I think he is going to love her too. I would say her fins are more green than purple now that i'm getting a better look at her. It would be a safe bet to say Simon and Morley came from the same spawn. I must say Morley is the more comfortable of the two. Simon is still hiding from me in his make shift cave (a flower pot lol)

Once he remembers how much better off they are with you than being left to die at the store, he'll warm up to them.

Besides, I'm sure they'll give him the "you KNOW you love me" look...men seem to be suckers for a pretty face.

The other day I told my husband that when we get our 10 gallon tank back from his brother I might get set it up here, put in the divider and get two more betta's in it. He looked at me with his "you really think so" look. At which point I decided it was time to shut my mouth. We have a 25 gallon tropical tank, and I was against having a second tank set up (in a very small apartment) until I wanted a Betta, and then I was all for it...
Good luck with your two new loves. Hopefully your husband comes to love them as well!

Jan...my hubby thought I was silly for wanting a betta, it's was no big deal to him. He knows that I love to have critters to care for and nurture (since I don't have grandchildren yet ) but now is always talking to Deuce, and good boy Deuce... does a fantastic job of wiggling, acting silly, poufing for him...so now my hubby understands better......you're hubby will come around (he has before), you just HAD to do what needed done...and we're so happy for all. Got to show us pics asap!

Wow, we both have a betta named Deuce! Weird, eh?

You husband will forget about you spending a few extra bucks on the bettas, but your bettas never will Great save and congrats on your new bettas!

Great save, how could you leave them, especially when your little girl was being picked on. They sound beautiful.
I'm sure your husband will come around.

Hmmmm...maybe this is where the bikini underwear that were advertised in sirdarksol's Python No Spill kit might come in handy.

Congratulations on your two rescues! You did the right thing. Your husband will warm up to your fishies. You may want to try what I did with mine....I told my husband that one could be his and that I would take care of it, but he can name him and give him attention. He seemed to like that idea lol!

We understand how you felt and why you picked them up. I always feel for the little Bettas in the cups, but sometimes I see one that's so bad off I just can't leave the little one there to die in cold, dirty water alone. It's twice meant watching a little one die within hours while talking to him, but it's also brought us little Sweetie.

Unfortunately, your hubby is almost like our familes. They don't understand the love and compassion we can have for these precious fish or even that fish are pets.

I do hope things smooth over at home and that your 2 rescues turn out like Sweetie - healthy, happy delights that can always warm your heart.

I will get pictures for sure today. Steven came out of my office last night (where the two new babies are ) and he said " that little girl sure has the best personality, but i'm worried about the little boy". I said " you are ?" and he said " ya I was until I was talking to him and he came out of his cave (flower pot) to eat". I said " oh what did you have to say to them ?" and he said " not much, I just didn't want him to die". I was like OHHHHHHHHHHHH YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH. And then he said " those flower pots were brilliant, you really know how to set fish up on a dime. I'm proud of ya". And I said " Ya I stole that idea from someone at the forum". He said " Ya, that little girl sure is some sweet". I was like " who are you and where is my husband"

I am so glad you got them when you did. It sounds like they were in dire need of someone to help them. Bettas do soon realize when they have been assisted and who loves them. He will come around when they begin to show personality and cute actions. I am sure he has a good heart. Look who he married..

Yup he just exspected me to stop and one betta. then two betta's. Then three betta's. Now he said "FIVE ARE ENOUGH". I just said " YOU'LL SEE". The funny thing is he has the kids all trained. We were doing some shopping at walmart on saturday and my five year old went running to him and said " PAPA ITS AN EMERGENCY, MAMA'S LOOKING AT FISH!"

He may carp a little but I truly believe he loves the idea that you are such a loving person. But I get the same thing over the money I spend on my fish from my family. It is universal.
