Hikari rocks Champion's socks!

So.. you know how Champion refused to eat pellets? Finally got a shipment of Hikari Bio-Gold pellets, and... he loves them. L-O-V-E-S. He's a piggy, he is.

Aand, because we all love pictures, here he is, flirting with the camera and showing off his gorgeous colours.

P/S Forgive the dismal tank design - going to redecorate, hopefully, this weekend.

Well just do not let him "piggy" himself too much although I know that Hikari has the reputation of having excellent luck with feeding bettas. They are great with their pellets (just the right size for betta mouths) and they really seem to like the taste but they can constipate them terribly if they overeat so no more than 3 or 4 pellets a meal for 2 meals a day. Really it is no fun to restrict their eating but to deal with constipation is REALLY horrible. It can turn a betta owner gray overnight almost literally.
I am so glad that you did not have to go through the months of trying to find out what he would eat though and that has happened before let me tell you. They can be little devils when it comes to finding something they will eat. Some bettas just will not accept much variety in their diet. Most fish love to change foods but bettas are funny. Some of them like to experiment and some of them settle on one food and will not even attempt anything else. If you try another food and he rejects it do not worry. As long as he will keep eating the food that you know is good for him, it is okay. And any Hikari product will keep him healthy if he does not overdo it. Almost every betta will eat bloodworms though if you ever do decide to extend his diet, but do be careful with them as some humans are allergic to them so it is sometimes advisable to handle them with tweezers to keep from having direct contact with them. I have not got a problem but if you happen to have a lot of allergies, we would not want to have you have a problem.

I am so happy that you are having a good time with your fish. He will have such a great personality from the interaction with you.

Oh don't worry... my two year old niece has taught me to say no, no matter how much they flutter their eyelashes/fins or how cute they are

Champion gets 4 bloodworms AM, and 5 pellets PM. Does that sound alright? Pea once a week, on the weekend.

One good looking boy you have there!!! I feed 3/4 pellets per meal. They have garlic guard soaked blood worms once a week, a pea meal and 2 of them have daphnia once a week ( they others hate it) one still enjoys betta flakes now and then.

It depends on the size of the blood worms each AM. I'd say imagine us eating 4 pieces of steak for breakfast and go from there. I'd only give 3 pellets for tea personally. My bettas vary in size too , that makes a difference!

i would say that unless he is a very big betta (over 2" or 5cm without his fins) that 3 pellets is a big enough meal for him and 4 or 5 worms is fine too. Otherwise it is too easy to get him in tummy trouble. Pellets swell and are easier to have problems with than the worms. I would feed fewer of them than the worms actually. If he is over 2" or 5cm in length then the 4 pellets is okay but 5 is too many for any betta. I know that they beg but it is just too dangerous for them.
