2 new boys!
I have to admit, all this talk about people getting new bettas has made me kinda want another. I have had just "Betta" since "Scuba" and "Strawberry" died.
So today while I was at Walmart I thought, oh I'll just go and look, not planning on getting one... duh..like I could actually look and not want to take them home!
And of course, I couldn't decide on just one, so I came home with 2 new boys!
I also picked up a few of those little rubbermaid containers (they are 19 qts) for them to live in until I can get some tanks set up for them (and make sure i have the heaters/filters for those tanks) I plan to put them each in their own 10 gallon, but I need to get one more filter for it first.
So right now they are swimming around in their little rubbermaid containers. I have a heater in each one, and have added a few betta friendly plants so they dont feel totally empty. Tommorrow I will go get a few more of those cheap brightly colored cave things that walmart has (i thought i had some, but cannot find them anywhere). I don't have any small filters for the tanks, but I figure they will be ok in there for a few days until I can get their other tanks set up (cant be any worse than those cups!) I hope to get their new tanks set up this weekend sometime.
One is a tiny little guy, a beautiful turquoise color. He's VERY friendly already, sat and watched me the whole time I set everything up.
The other is a bit bigger, a steel blue color w/ white on his fins, maybe even a little red too (its hard to tell he looked really stressed) He has a long veil tail. I think he may have finrot, as the edges look black. But I will check him more clearly tomorrow, once he has settled in a little more.
Here are some pictures! (sorry they aren't very clear! especially the last one, its taken through the not so clear rubbermaid container!)

Yeah its amazing how quick these little guys can suck you in!
I just finished ordering any and everything i thought I needed for them (even though i probably have most of the stuff i need, its always fun to buy new stuff!).
Both boys ate like pigs tonight... at first they weren't sure, then they were like ohh yum!
= ) I had forgotten how much fun these cute little guys can be

Oh, so you live in a zoo too?
Sometimes I think... if only bettas could live together... then we could rescue so many more!

I'm going to re-do the little update I had posted, but unfortunately it was lost yesterday, so I'll give a new one!
The little turquoise betta is now in a 5 gallon mini bow that I had sitting around (and had forgotten about) I'm still waiting for the dfs order to get here with his filter, but so far he seems to be pretty happy. I still need to go get some more decorations for his tank, he just has the little marbles things (like a lot of people have for their bettas) and a few plants so far. (but my daughter is sick and I don't want to drag her out in the cold, so it will have to wait a few days)
The steel blue one is still in the rubbermaid container and being treated with fungus clear for finrot. He will hopefully be able to move into his new home on thursday when he is done with treatment. He has a neon cave and some plants, which he seems to be enjoying. He's already built a huge bubble nest!
I will try to get some new pictures up soon

Oh no! I hope your Dad is ok! My daughter just has a cold, something she gets quite often being in daycare (dirty little kids, always passing their germs! lol)
I've never had a betta build a bubble nest, I was excited! Even though he's in a tank w/ fungus clear, no filter, no light... he must be happy! And very friendly, hes currently on the kitchen table, and will sit and watch us eat, swimming back and forth from my daughter and myself. It's too cute!
The little turquoise one is still a little shy, I think he's a little overwhelmed with the tank size (though its only a 5 gallon). I am headed today after class to get some more decorations for him, hopefully that will make him a little more relaxed.

I've actually got another betta, "Betta" that looks almost exactly like yours...his fins aren't as turquoise as yours, but they are pretty close!

Beautiful Bettas Michelle! I read in one of my betta books that white or black on the edges of their tales just means that their tails are not done growing. I would keep an eye on it before treating him for finrot! Best of luck to you. I hope you enjoy the little guys!

Hmm I've never heard that. I've been told that white or black edges are signs of finrot. Either way, he's already been treated, tomorrow is his last day. Thanks for the insight though, I'm gonna have to check that out!

I got both bettas tank decor today. Each one got more of the glass flat marble things and a little cave/house thing to sleep in. I still need to find some more betta-friendly plants, I am planning on going to petsmart next week.
The steel blue boy will be transfered to his 10 gallon tomorrow (which is cycled, I am just going to switch the gravel out for the marbles, keeping the gravel in a stocking so the good bacteria will still be there, plus the filter has been running for several months in that tank).
Hopefully I'll have more pictures tomorrow!

I live in a zoo too, with five dogs, 6 lovebirds, 6 parakeets, 2 parrotlets, a sun conure, and four fish tanks. My husband actually seems to think that's enough! It drives me crazy because I have a 6g tank with nothing in it. If they'd just tolerate each other I wouldn't need to add tanks, just fish!
The black edges on the fins can also be part of the fish's coloring. I worried over my silver female for quite a while before I decided that her translucent tail fin with black edges was just her natural coloration!
