A breeding question?

Hi, my 10gall new betta breeding tank is setup, i have live plants/thermometer on the right hand side, chimney containing my female in the centre and a half cut styrofoam cup tied to on the left.

My female is showing very visible vertical lines and a very visible white spot on the underbelly.

Yet my male doesnt seem to be able to leave her alone to build a nest, he is just constantly flaring.

Do i just wait until he decides to build a nest or should i release my female as she seems to be ready?

Thanks.

The male needs to make the nest first if im not mistaken. Do you have everything you'll need for the breeding process? Do you have out grow tanks and cups to sepreate the males when they start to fight?

No problem and welcome to Fishlore! If you want to talk to a breeder MM aka Martinismommy is the master betta breeder on here lol. She should see the post sometime and reply.

Ahh ok!

I shall await her response then

Im also wondering whether to remove the female, whether that would take away the distraction and he would concentrate on a nest, maybe? Ah who knows :P

Thanks again

Welcome to FishLore

The link aquarist48 posted should answer a lot of questions for you.
What are you planning to do with all the fry?
Good luck!

How long have they been in the same tank? Some males don't build a nest until they start spawning...I'm assuming you are fully prepared for Betta fry....Do you have your foods ready for day 3 after hatching?

Yes i am fully prepared, well as prepared as one can be without having done it before!

They have been in the same tank for around 2 hours, he just doesn't seem to be able to take his eyes off her.

Any suggestions?

Give him time.....He will most likely have a nest in the morning....It can take several days......Just be patient and it will happen....

Dont they like to be in darkness when they spawn MM?

tht depends on their behavior I guess. Some wont spawn when the lights are turned on and some dont mind if the lights are turned on as well...

Mine never seem to care if the lights are on....I have never had a spawn occur at night...Mine always spawn in the morning.....

my first spawn happened in the evening, when there were no lights ... the female never approached the male when the lights were on till afternoon(as the room was a bit dark)..
