Is this the same betta that got beaten up real bad? If so that's pretty good that he is building a bubble nest already. You will get plenty of responses soon! A lot of betta people here

Hi Play, I wouldn't recommend breeding bettas unless you have the time, money and equipment involved. Not to mention where you would find homes for what could be 100's of fry.
It's much more complicated than breeding guppies or mollies.
If done incorrectly (even correctly sometimes), someone is bound to be hurt or killed.
Here's our Step by Step guide to breeding Bettas

One tank isn't going to suffice. Before they're ready to be sold/traded, they have to be separated or they will most likely fight.

I agree with Shawnie. Even 50% isn't going to grow back in 3 days.
May I ask why you want to breed Bettas?

Please read that link. It was written by our very experienced betta breeder, and by the look of her work, it is time consuming and takes up alot of money. I agree also, one of my bettas chowed down on his fin and it took him a couple weeks of clean water to even SEE some fin regrowth...

Even if he was fully recovered, breeding isn't exactly a walk in the park for these guys. Nipping and chasing are part of the courtship to some degree, and this combined with his recent injuries might stress him to the point he could get sick. Not to mention that some betta girls can be meaner than the males! There's no guarantee that any given pair will be compatible in any case. Bettas are solitary critters by nature, and as soon as the girlie drops her eggs, the male will chase her out, even kill her as she's then viewed as a threat to his babies.

Not to mention the cost of breeding! You need a spawn tank of at least 10g, a filter of some kind, food for the fry, places to put the fry once they can no longer be housed together... breeding bettas isn't a lucrative business :/

Bubblenests mean he's feeling better, which is good! Don't compromise his recovery by overwhelming him with a girl! Best wishes for his speedy healing

Females can be just as fun as the males, just house them seperate

Maybe the real question here should be WHY do you want to breed him in the 1st place? If you do end up breeding you may want to make sure you have around 100 1/2 jars ready to separate the males at around 6 weeks....
