First Spawn Attempt with New Guy

My betta's have just gone into the spawning tank for the first time together, just to see if my male is ready. They've been conditoned for two weeks, and he started blowing bubble nests earlier in the week, so I've decided to give them a tentative try......My main fear is that my girl is a lot bigger my male, although he doesn't seem intimidated, and is enthusiasticly flaring at her in between building a nest, so hopefully they might be ok...............I'll update as they progress............

Imo if the male is flaring at her I would wait until the male has completed building the nest before you add the female to the tank. You can always hang her in the tank in a breeding container or called breeding trap, to let the male get used to her. I also find attaching half of a styrofoam coffee cup to the top of the tank (inside facing up), will help him keep the nest together.

If you need anymore breeding advice let me know.

Sorry, should have explained it better. She's in the tank, but in a jar so they can't get to one another. And yes I'm using a cup for the nest. He is building one but seems more interested in her than building the nest!

Ok, he'd built a preety good nest so I realeased her and she smashed it up. Not good enough obviously. But he's a trooper and went straight back to repairing it, in between chasing her! I'm leaving her in with him for now, theres plenty of Java Moss to hide in so we'll see how things progress...............

Successful Spawn! She has eaten some of the eggs, but he has also done his job with quite a few of them. He tryed to stop her eating them but she is so much bigger than him that she just pushed him aside. Since this is my first ever successful attempt at even getting them to breed I'm still pretty happy! We'll see if any of the eggs hatch next......
