| Mercy's spawn log! Well, I startted the spawn this morning. Mercy made a fine bubble nest for Princess Alicia. They are still chasing each other around, and I hope we are getting close.
I used the same setup for my spawn as MM posted in the sticky on Breeding Bettas, but I will give you a detailed run down on my setup.
I have a 10g filled about four inches with water. I have two Indian Almond leaves and a lot of Christmas moss in there. I used a 25w submersible heater that I have set at 80degrees. There is a sponge filter in one corner and a styrofoam plate taped to the front side of the glass.
8pm 3/29/09:
I put Alicia in first in a glass chimney. Then I added Mercy after a few minutes. He did not notice her at first, but when he did, he ran away!(silly boy) After a few minutes, he realized that she could not get him, he started to flare at her. It was the first time I saw him flare since I have had him. I turned off the lights and went to bed.
8 am 3/30/09:
I turned on the lights and released Alicia. Mercy chased her merrily around the tank, and now they are playing a nice game of tag. He continues to make his bubble nest, as she has destroyed it once when she was running away from him.
I will keep everyone posted as it progresses throughout the day! |

| My little boy is about to become a man!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you! I hope he does "the wild thing" today! Does anyone have tears in their fins yet?
My crew is all waiting to hear the good news! Here is the boy I kept to replace Mercy...Sending him to you was hard but now that I watch this guy mature it's a little easier Last edited by Martinismommy; March 30th, 2009 at 12:58 PM.

| Well, no action yet! However, there is a lot of chasing and flirting, and the female is getting bolder by the minute! She is already coming up to him and rubbing on him. He gets so startled! So far it has been exactly as all of the betta breeding instructions have foretold, so I am confident that I have a good setup and will have a successful spawn! I will keep you posted! |

| Thank you everybody! They are still flirting. Everyone still has fins and no wounds so that is a good sign. The princess keeps checking out the bubble nest, and apparently it is not to her liking. She will swim away after a quick peck at Mercy! Then he frantically starts making more bubbles.
I have heard that it sometimes takes a couple of days to have a successful pairing. Is that true, or has it been too long already? I think I will leave them in there overnight for at least one more night, and if there is any sign of trouble, I will separate them. They sure are cute how they are flirting! |

| Heather, this is so exciting. I know you'll keep us posted. I'm so glad neither little beauties have gotten torn up as of your most recent post.
Mercy is right right at the top .03% of the most gorgeous bettas I've ever seen, and I got to meet him in person at MM's home! He seems quite the character, and I hope he's a good dad. I'm amazed MM sent him, as she was understandably enthralled with him. She obviously chose you as a great potential breeder.
Let's hope for a successful, happy and healthy spawn! |

| Well still no action, and Mercy is starting over with his bubble nest. I hope we see something soon! I expect to see action sometime this morning. I will keep everyone posted. So far no injuries. I think they spent the night sleeping! |

| What do you mean starting over? Did the other one get destroyed? They will probably start wrapping today...I've had spawns take up to 5 days! As long as there is no serious aggression I leave them together..
I'm over here awaiting the good news! |

I'm over here awaiting the good news! | Yes, his first one got destroyed by the chasing! He is slowly building a new one. They started rubbing together a lot now. Then he chases her again. I think they are getting close!
Do you feed them at all while they are in there? I don't want to disturb them, but I don't want them to be hungry either. |

| everything I've read says your not supposed to, part of the reason that you need to condition everyone really well before spawning. Usually you only feed the father after the fry have hatched if you're leaving the father in. |

| Well, they are starting to wrap around each other quite a bit, but poor Mercy just can't get the hang of it yet! I am sure they will eventually get it. I am watching to make sure they are not in danger though! Will keep you posted! |

| Yes he is still wrapping her, but I do not think any eggs have been released yet. He hasn't gotten the right angle I guess!LOL
No I have not fed them and I will not until I remove the female after they are done! I will not feed the male until he is done as well!
Crossing my fingers! Is it normal to wrap this much and no eggs? |

| Well we have egg release! YAY! However, Mercy shows no interest in picking them up and putting them in the bubble nest. The girl is doing it a little bit, but he keeps interfering and trying to wrap her again! Is this normal? |
