Well I've officially begun my first spawn in a couple of years. The fish are conditioned, the tank set up, the tank temp finally right, and the fish seem interested. They saw each other, they are also known breeders (brother and sister halfmoon choclate mustard gas). Anyways the only bump so far was that I had to spoon in some substitute bubble nest to get the male started, not sure what was up with him but he gets it now, nest making like a fish on steroids. Luckily I was smart enough to keep all my supplies so I have about a trillion old jars that are warming up to room temp in anticipation. Hope Im not counting my chickens before they hatch kinda deal. First food will be mircoworms, theres a local woman who sells already established microworm cultures so I wont have to worry about that. Anyways the male and female are together now shes very much interested and doesnt seem to be too scared of him yet, unfortunately i lost my opportunity for a storm as it was last night. i dont know how many of you agree with the whole pressure change leads to spawning frenzy but ill take all the luck i can get. anyways ill post if i have any success in the coming days. Their clock is ticking only three days until seperation!!

I will try and get some pics tomorrow. no spawn as of yet but I haven't lost hope its only been well less than a day so theres still time. Hopefully he will continue to work on the nest as it was a little messed up when I accidentally knocked over the container that held the female. oh well i guess

Well spawn yet. I think Im attaching pictures but ive never done it before so well see if they come out right. Anyways the bubble nest is huge, bigger than before a dumb human aka me ruined it. And its not even under the cup this time! silly fish

Still no spawn as of this morning... I'm still hopeful tho. We I woke up and turned the light on the female was approaching the nest and they were dancing for a bit then the male chased her away... Its starting to get more violent so hopefully they will spawn today so I dont have to worry about abandoning the whole spawn and starting over.

Well no success so far. For some reason he builds these great nests at night and the are gone by midday so I seperated them for the day, did a water change, and Im going to feed They were so close just the other day but there was no nest today so I took her out to prevent more aggression. Very frustrating considering they have spawned before. Im starting to think I may have to get some IAL so im scoping out aquabid looking for a small lot, they all seem to be 20 leave or more!!!

I'm sorry things haven't gone as planned....betta breeding can be challanging for sure....I'm going to advise you the next time you start a spawn to leave them alone and do NOT seperate them and absolutely no water changes during spawning...All this does is upset nature...Aggression is a normal part of spawning....This is why many people choose not to breed them....

I only removed the female because it had been about a full three days and he stopped making bubblenests but I will leave them together for longer next time I release her in a couple days. Thanks for the advice there are so many diffferent answers for how long to leave the female in the tank.

What are you using to seperate the two? I've heard that making sure that the water can pass freely between the two before you let the female out can be really helpful with difficult spawns some times.

interesting... im using a glass hurricane so ill give a divider a try and see if that helps. The hard part is trying to figure out if its the male or the female or both that is holding back... Sounds like i have a date with the pet/craft store tonight
