Plakat Betta?

Is it possible to get a halfmoon Plakat out of 2 halfmoon Splenens? I have this boy out of my BF pair that does not look like the other males...He has a very short coby body and a shorter tail....

Here are pictures to show the difference in the 3 boys I'm keeping..The blue boy is halfmoon and the pink boy is Rosetail no question......But what is the other guy??

as I understand it the PK gene is recessive to the long tail mutant one. Either the parents are pk carriers or the little guy had the long tail mutant gene that reverted back to pk. Those are the only two things I can think of. He's a really good looking boy!

I got the verdict on this boy....According to a "Best in Show" breeder at the IBC he is a very nice show quality halfmoon....He has the coby body and full dorsal desired in a show betta...I almost sold him and he is my #1 pick (go figure) lol...

At least I'm consitant on what I liked....Look at the body style on my pink and blue boys...They look like they came out of the same mold...I guess I like the longer more elegant style bodies....

I like them too. I'm glad you got a positive ID on the little guy.

You've got a knack for breeding bettas, for sure!

Thank you Lucy....It's been a learning experience for sure....What you think looks good at 2 months changes at 3 months....They don't really body up until the 3 month mark....

Here is my blue boy again....I named him "Mercy" That's what I say when I look at him MERCY ME your handsome lol....Depending on the light he looks purple at times...He is truly incredible to me!

This big guy loves the camera too lol...That is his pink sister flaring at him!..Check out the look on his face...The 2nd photo is him and his sisters who ADMIRE him all day .....The little heart in the photo was a water spot that took on the reflection of a heart...

The look of annoyance and tolerance for his sister is precious!
Funny about the heart shaped water mark. I could look at your bettas all day.

They're gorgeous beyond words. I love Mercy's colors, and the annoyed look on the big guy's face at his flaring sister is precious! Excellent photos and fantastic breeding, Karen!
