Mom and Dad are both beautiful bettas.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Oh and ummmm
Hi guys... I have bad news Jacky ate all the eggs. When I got home there was no eggs and no nest. I'm not sure why he did that though , but all the eggs are gone and he even destroyed his whole nest.

but... I have a video to show you guys... if I can get it to load...

LOL! I honestly don't know LOL! We saw him a week ago when he was on the side of the tank under the pebbles... but that was it. So I GUESS he is well. But that's the thing... you never see the critter so you kind of just assume is he ok.

It's not that uncommon for a 1st time Dad to get overwhelmed and eat the fry....My red boy just devoured a whole spawn....He took care of them the 1st day and the 2nd night all 100 of them were gone and he had a full tummy....I'll try him again and remove him as soon as the eggs hatch....The key is to keep the water leve low enough for the fry to get to the top.....

When do you plan on trying again? I'd try that turquoise boy of yours he is gorgeous! Do you have a picture of the girl you are using?

Martinismommy - she is all fat again... and Spartacus's bubble nest is 4 times bigger than Jacky's... Should i put her with him? It will be his first too I'm afraid... so he might also not be a good daddy.

I like to wait at least 2 weeks in between spawning a female.....She needs time to get her strength back......How long has it been?

it's only been a week now.

when will Jacky be ready again? or is it a case where I need to wait for him to build a nest first?

I'd wait another week....Then I'd put her in a globe in the spawn tank with him loose...He should build a nest...Once he does, I'd release her and watch them closely....

What are you using for a spawn tank? Tell me about the set up you have....Also, make sure you have live food for the fry before spawning......

I'm using a 30 x 22 x 22 tank (+ - 60gal tank) got a few big blue pebble in the one corner with a plastic plant and some moss drifting on the surface. Most of the bottom of the tank is clear (no pebble - only the glass bottom). I put the filter off when they build their nests (normal sponge filter - nothing fancy) and the water is constantly between 81f and 83f. I clamp a piece of bubble wrap (15cm x 15cm) to the side and make it drift on the surface - they build their nests under that. I find that helps keep the bubbles moist. I also wrap cling wrap over half of the top of the tank to sort of close it (also just to prevent a draft and keep the air temp constant)

I feed them brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, pellets and flakes (mostly the live or frozen foods - I don't like the dry foods).

for the fry - well for the life of me I cannot get microworms, but I found a guy who use to breed Bettas and he gave me a container with some stuff that is similar to micorworms - but they are not alive. I don't have the name on me unfortunately - I'll you tomorrow what it is. And he swears by it.

Isis...I'd remove the rocks if possible...You'll understand why if you get live fry...A complete bare bottom is the best for survival...Maby you can pot the plant and put it in the far corner....

I've removed all the fine little rocks you see in the bottom 2 pics. The tank is more like the top pic and yes the rocks and plant is in the opposite corner away from the nest. (I kind of put it there for the girl to have hiding space)
I'll try and remove it all without damaging the nest too much.
