Made it thru the night!

Bred Romeo to Gracie yesterday. Romeo is still taking care of the eggs this morning. I think he is afraid of the dark. Last time I left the room dark and when the night time came the eggs we gone. So this time I left a light on in the room.
See the eggs in this nest?

It is really cool watching him clean the eggs with his mouth. Slurps them up swishes them around, and back in the nest.
It will be interesting to see if any survive. I am not having as great luck as MM is...I honestly think it's b/c we had a major weather change here. It was nice for Nov and then we got a snow storm...the temp dropped a lot in the apartment.

I'm convinced the change in seasons has an effect on our bettas. It seems there are several loses during that time.

MM and those betta steroid boys! lol (for those of you who don't know MM's bettas this is a j/k. she doesn't use steroids) I hope she's doing ok and would give us an update soon.

Remember, you're steps ahead of the last time, so good going. Keep us up to date and the pictures coming.

Yup we've both agreed on this before. The weather does something to the pressure which does something to the betta. Even with breeding. Who knew?
Steroid boys!

Allie.....

Darnit!!!!!!!!! I just assumed you knew to keep the light on 24/7 on a spawning tank....It's very important to do this so the male can see the eggs....He needs to see them when they start dropping from the nest.....You'll see him pick them up and insert them back into the bubbles...I keep the light on all the time for the 1t 3 weeks......

Congratulations on the spawn! I have a feeling this one may be the "one" yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I hope so.
Yeah reread up on the lighting part. My bad. My brain has trouble absorbing all info...thank goodness for my book.
It looks like I'll be needing more pairs. Too bad I can only get them locally and none are available right now. The trans-shippers won't send during the cold weather months.

Which day do you take dad out? I read the 3-5th day.

Congrats! Don't forget to tell Romeo what a good boy he is!

Usually you take the dad out when the fry are all swimming around horizontally, which yes, depending on temp, is usually day 3-5.

Hung my pairs breeder said he put them straight on freshly hatched bbs. His betta have a good growth and survival rate, so I am following his lead.
Thanks Karen, I was up half the night just watching Romeo take care of his kids. So cute!! I'll be so tired when this spawn is big enough to transfer to the grow out. They are doing great today, see lots of little swimming eyes amongst the plants.
More pix down thru this thread...
