well, in my LFS they keep male and female together. i just got a female and wondered if they could share the same tank or will he kill her?

He will definatly harass her and if she won't breed he will probably kill her...or she could be the aggressor and kill him...even if she will breed he will then want her out and try to drive her off and if she won't go ( read can't in an aquarium) he will then kill her...either way it is not a good scenario...good luck

Females have been known to kill males. One member lost a male after preparing both for breeding. If this can happen when everything's done right, it is almost certain to happen if they're just tossed in together. It may take time (which is why the fish store is willing to do it. They're hoping they'll sell one or another before the stress reaches the breaking point), but it will happen.

It is just not worth the risk of losing one of them.....betta fish do best when kept alone....I have not read of one sucess story when they have been put together to share a tank....

They are happier and show more personality when kept in their own tank. I wouldn't ever put more than 1 Betta Splendens in a tank.

the only time that bettas should ever be kept together is in when you have females in a l10 gallon tank. even that i'm a bit iffy about. Bettas generally do not do good with other flashy fin type fish and definately NOT together. there's a reason they are called siamese fighting fish....as to completely alone there are certain types of fish that can be kept with bettas if your tank is big enough. cories, pleco, oto, and larger species of shrimp do just fine with bettas. but as for angels and other such beautiful fish, it's probably the worst idea you'd ever have. good luck with the bettas i'd suggest either a divided 10 gallon or two 5 gallon tanks. let us know if u need any other advise.
