Re: Youtube: New Betta Fish & added photos here.

Seeing him in action, he does look like a delta tail. his butterfly is very close to a smooth oval and that's very good. i've used that heater in one of the little 'critter keeper' acrylic boxes and had no problems with it, or even in using it in a rubbermaid container.

thank you Natalie...He is a sweetie pie with his own personality for sure.

Hi Val, he was flaring because I put a mirror up to the glass. I wanted him to show off his tail for a better photo so that I could identify what type of Betta he is.

Hello FlBettaCouple:
I read another post, I think by butterfly, maybe it was chickadee, that mentioned the critterkeeper. It looked like a good size, wondering how many gals that holds? I wouldnt mind using that for a tank in an emergancy. About that mini heater, I checked out the site you showed me, but thought that in the 2.5 g it would just take up too much room. So I would like to try out that flat 2.5x5 inch heater by hordel. I thought that 8 cents tail flowed differently than my red betta, pheonix. Thanks for checking him out for me.
Now off to check out your posts on your trip to the show!

He is a veil tail, very similar to Romeo. They both have a kind-of 'bell' shaped tail. Here is a pic of Romeo from about 9 days ago. Just imagine it to be a little longer (he is still recovering from tail rot) and they would look very similar.

And welcome to your new boy! He is gorgeous! Maybe he and Romeo are related - both little walmart bettas...

He certaintly does look like Romeo... But 8 cents is not a walmart betta. There is no local walmart around here. And no petco either. My only LFS is petsmart and thats where I go for my fishys.

Excellent video of your new Veiltail Betta. I also like your tank setup in the video called CapeKates Betta Tank. It has a good mix of plants. Where do you get your plants? My local PetsMart has very few plants on hand. Unlike the old days when they had them in a huge tank ready to go, now they are in plastic tubes and who knows how long they've been out of water?!? I am also interested in what additives you use, if any, to keep the plants healthy.

hello There, glad you liked the video. In my tanks I have used the frill plant and mondo grass. I dont use any additives for the plants, and the frill plant is flourishing without any help.I keep the hood light on for about 12 hours or so a day, so that may be helping it along. I also use petsmart, where they have a large planting tank full of rows of plants, guess im lucky that my local petstore still has the plant tanks and not plastic tubes. But without much help from me, the plants seem to be doing very well. I have used hornwort in the past, but that particular plant really sheds and makes a mess in the tank. Moneywort is not a bad choice, but can get messy when it comes up during a vacumn cleanning of the surrrounding gravel. I like the frill plant since it grows so tall, it gives the Bettas a sort of sleeping spot for the evenings. They can rest on top of the soft plant near the surface.
