| I was attacked and biten yesterday...... by the betta bug. I rescued 2 more female bettas from a store that had them in 5-10 gallon tank with 6 other females and a male. They were in the best condition, I am surprised that they didn'y even have stress stripes. One is white bodied and blue/red finned. The other is dark brown with dark blue/green fins and back half of body.

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... That's great, but you are keeping them in separate tanks aren't you? Female Bettas will attack each other sooner or later, no matter what any fish store employee or person online says. You did say earlier that you didn't want any more tanks. Has that changed? You could get a 10 gallon and put a divider in it and keep one on each side. That's how mine live and they are doing great. I would definately not mix the two new ones with the one already in your community tank. It sounds like she was just starting to get used to the other fish. Adding two new Bettas to the mix is going to cause a LOT of problems and stress.
BTW, not all female Bettas can show stress stripes, especially not the ones with white or pink bodies. It does not mean they are not stressed. Males get stressed too but cannot show stress stripes. |

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... Ya you're right about me not getting another tank, but they also had a deal on their 2.5 gallon tanks so I got one and a divider for it. I also got a light that heats the tank to a nice temp of about 75F. I have the 'tank' in my room on my comp. desk. I wouldn't really consider it a tank. I might move one of them down into the 10 gallon since the sumo loach has disappeared and I will wait a few more days to see if it turns up. But I slept well lst night knowing I saved tghose 2 baby girls. I will have some pics as soon as they get used to their new surroundings.

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... Well ... one gallon is more than the little cup at the LFS. And the water quality is probably much better. And they'll get more attention. Its easy to say anything has to be better than that little cup and that may be partially true ... but at least know they have a chance and a happy and healthy life! |

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... yea, sometimes we have to keep them in temporary housing.. 2 of the 5 we picked up at the Betta show are in vases, but will get moved to tanks asap and in the meanwhile, will get their water changed daily along with a little extra bit of prime and some vitachem and a cleaning of any poop.
Great job on the rescue Tom! Those females are definitely happier and safer now. |

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... I don't know if you know this but here in Winnipeg at the casino, they have a huge saltwater tank that has tons of different marine critters, including a shark, and one of my teachers knows the person that takes of the whole big tank. I would have to say that would be great by telling everybody that you have this massive saltwater aquarium that the city pays you to take care of, now that is a job.

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... I don't think he will be quitting in the near future(unless near retirement), but I wonder if you can be just some joe blow who knows a lot about it to get the job. Unless you need to be a marine biologist(most likely).
To talk about the 2 females I got on the weekend, we had a huge storm last night and it knocked something above the 'tank' on the wall, about 5' above it, onto the 'tank' and broke the lid, I have the whole covered with a mint container but as soon as I can get the car, I will be off to replace the container and get some more food for the killifish fry. I am going to move the females into the 10 gallon as soon as I make sure the sumo loach is completely disappeared(complete mystery). I will of course ahve it divivded.

And anyways, there isn't any Petco's in Winnipeg that I know of.

| Re: I was attacked and biten yesterday...... I got a small little light that provides both heat and light to the container and I empty about 25% of it into the plants in pots and use only precycled water from the 36 which has been established for about a year now.
