Meet Willow

This is Willow, my newest water baby.* The pics aren't that great but she is gaining color every day.* She was almost white yesterday.

Oh, and I think that she may be full of eggs, or just bloated - not sure which. Her belly is really round, so I fed her a pea treat. She is pooping though. Anyone ever had an egg-laden female betta?

She's very pretty! Is she a crowntail female?

Re: Meet Willow

welcome to fishlore willow.. you're a beauty.

i've not had an egg-laden female betta, but angel did look a bit bloated at first when we got her, even tho she was pooping. the petco here feeds them freeze-dried worms so maybe she was fed something similiar and has a sort of partial-constipation? is that even a possible thing?

Re: Meet Willow

Sara was totally egg laden when I got her and your little one is not nearly large as she was but she does not look as old as Sara was. Just watch her and try to watch for egg problems if they do not pass as that can kill them. Most times they will pass and you will have like an oil slick on the water one day but if they become egg bound she will just keep getting larger like she has swim bladder disorder.

Does this happen often with female bettas? Would there be any solution to the problem if a female become egg-bound?

Re: Meet Willow

I had heard that the problem can be taken care of by putting them in a divided tank with a male but that is kind of risky too. I did not have time to worry as Emma killed Sara before it could become a problem. Let me see what I can find out from a friend of mine or some other folks who know bettas a bit better and have had many more than I.
