Spartacus is back home!!

Well, his tank finally cycled. I did one more water test last night and no ammonia or nitrite. I didn't check the nitrate, since I already knew there was some in there. It was at around 10 PPM at the last check so I assumed it had climbed. I did a 1 gallon water change and proceeded to transfer him from the vase to his tank. His tail has completely healed. He did nothing but flare at his shadow the whole time I watched him and much of today. His colors look even more brilliant now under the fluorescent light!

So, after about 6 weeks, he's back in his home!

Re: Spartacus is back home!!

I'm sure Neptune will be just fine too. Just hang in there Neptune until you're tank cycles. He's been fighting this long, I'm sure he'll be ok. Just make sure his water is kept clean in the hospital tank. That's the important thing. I cleaned Spartacus's vase every other day and in between cleanings, sucked out his poo with a turkey baster. I only had to med him with Bettafix for a few days and that was it. The rest of the time all I did was make sure his water was fresh and clean.

Re: Spartacus is back home!!

I think clean water does so much more of the work for us than we give it credit for... Dory's been off meds for a little while now and with biweekly water changes he's doing better than he ever did on meds.

Bettafix always seems to help too, but it runs out quickly in a 5-gallon so I don't have any left right now.

Great to hear about Spartacus and his cycled tank!
