Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

Thats terrible! Its just as bad as all the people at most petshops telling you that if you buy a betta you can keep them in a half gallon or less bowl! I saw some really awful looking cups at the store, but that is by far the worst thing I've seen. That poor fish looks so sad!

Seriously now, how can the Betta even turn around in that thing. He's almost as big as the bowl! Natalie

No kidding. How can people be so clueless as to think any fish would be happy in there?!!!

Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

I'd like to stick that stupid girl in the bowl.. not only is that poor betta in a prison - it's a puke-ugly prison. What would be more fitting in her little creation would be a fat cow-pie. I've seen better looking things smeared on the interstate.. obviously her IQ is smaller than that bowl.

ok, that was my immediate reaction.. cooled down, I think she should focus on fads without the involvement of live animals and wait until she actually wants a pet to get one.

Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

I do have to agree with the post that pointed out that she prolly didn't know any better. I'm not saying it's okay, but we should try to educate not belittle people. Though, nothing gets me more mad than the person that said "all betta's do is just sit there," Tell that to Grim! He's wigglin around trying to get some attention as I'm typing. People should be given a chance to learn. If they insist on holding on to their ignorant beliefs, THEN we should let'em have it.

Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

also... many of us came to this group after getting a fish in a little bowl. the only thing different between many of the ppl here and "that stupid girl" is that she hasn't looked for more information yet. She believed the ppl at the pet stores. There is no reason for her to question them. The only reason most of us have questioned the pet stores was because our fish were sick. We found this place, and now we know. I don't see how yelling at her, without at least trying to educate her a little first will do any good.

Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

I guess my gut reaction when I saw that was to be upset with her for putting a Betta in that thing, like how i feel seeing the betta boxes at the store. I see quite a few posts on there questioning her spacious choice of homes for the Betta, most from people who aren't even on fishlore, and her response that he's in good hands. Even for a fishbowl, that is tiny.

Googling something you want info on is like 2nd nature to so many, especially kids her age.. it's almost a verb now. It's how I found Fishlore, and probably a lot of other members. Maybe what she needs is to be informed, but does she want to be? I think she doesn't want a pet Betta - she wants a 'cool toy' for a fad. That's what's sad about it, fads wear out fast & are out with the next trash pickup.

I hope she'll see that her betta is in prison and feel the urge to learn about how to properly care for him. Then we might find her here asking how to help the Betta out.

Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

Timesdragonfly, thanks for your calm reason. I read the posts on that other forum, and agree none of the negative responses would change that girls mind.
People who insist on cutting others down verbally cause more problems than they correct. When the fish dies, and is to big to get back out the hole it went in, that will be the end of it.

The sad thing is that she will never experience the true beauty of these lovely fish as described in the posts here in fishlore where people bring them home, put them in a clean, warm, bigger home, just to find them changing colors, turning truly beautiful, and showing their personalities, as they will only do when healthy and happy.

Her loss.

Re: Yet another clueless betta owner

Well.. given her last post at the bottom of the page, I'd say she's got "pet store syndrome" (ie: just not giving a flip). So she's had them for years, huh and does that to them? no, she's not interested in caring for a betta if in all that time she hasn't even learned or tried to learn.. she thinks it's crazy to give one 3 whole gallons of water?! : - i'm imagining her saying in a Dr. McCoy voice: "i'm a fad-'artist', not a fish lover!" ok, go for it Jim!

One of these things http://www.kidrobot.com/products2.cf...S&typ=KIDROBOT painted up to look like a diver with a pencil for a speargun.. a tiny bowl was shoved inside the head & the betta shoved in the bowl.
