A QUICK HELLO & UPDATE - NEPTUNE

Greeting everyone. I just wanted to check in and say how sorry I am that so many fish are sick!? I had no idea this happened so regularly, and hope I don't have to deal with it. Many wouldn't understand bonding with such a little thing, but I do, and feel sad for everyone, and trust all will be well!!

An update on Neptune: He is so fun! He eats pellets and fd bloodworms (those only once a week) - and I swear he almost takes the darn things right out of my fingers! No wonder people sometimes overfeed them, they are so fun to feed! Neptune is also not bothered by my cats who lay in front of the aquarium and watch him. he just calmly swims around. Today is his "fasting" day, it is hard, cuz everytime I go into the room, he swims to the front of the tank thinking it is time to eat!!!

This flaring thing is so weird/cool! Sometimes I watch him down in the back corner of the tank, there must be a spot where he can see himself. Everynow and then he flares and swims like a crazy fish back to the spot. The way the gills open is just crazy!

The tank is doing well also. I did not buy the Bio Spira - I am just going to cycle the tank. I had to order a nitrate/nitrite test kit and some replacement filters, so was going to order it and have it all send overnight air ( for $26.00). ( From Drs Foster & Smith) However, they would not let me do this, they insisted on $9.99 shipping for my other stuff and $19.99 for the Bio Spira. Nuts! I researched the Bio Spira a lot, and there are several conflicting opinions. Anyway I decided I would just keep testing and and do water change when required. It is only a 6 gall tank, so that isn't too bad. As of today, tank is crystal clear, pH good and ammonia 0 PPM. Neptune is happy and healthy. It is our one week anniversary. A good enough reason for a glass of wine!

All these fish diseases arecertainly something I never thought of, so now am trying to educate myself.

And Rose, yes, they are little darlings.............so amusing, so beautiful! I keep forgetting to lower the resolution on my camera to do photos, I like photography also, and just keep taking pics of him , but then they are too large to post. Soon, I hope.

Anyway, cheers to all, prayers for all those sick fish, and thanks for help last week. Have a Great Weekend, everyone.

Re: A QUICK HELLO & UPDATE - NEPTUNE

I'm so glad that Neptune is doing good. You can give him free-dried bloodworms more then just once a week if you want to. They are good for him and he needs the protein. He won't get constipated just as long as you don't over feed them to him and you give him pea treats every few days. Natalie

Natalie is right he can have the freeze dried worms if he wants them but you should do the pea treats even if you fast him one day a week. I never fast mine, but do the pea treats 2 times a week.

I am so happy for you. There is nothing like the first days of betta keeping when they are so new to you and you are getting to know each other, but you just learn to love them more and more.
