Betta Question

I have heard that some people kept their bettas in a community tank. How would they eat? I don't think they'd eat flakes. Do you drop the food for the bettas and the food for the other tropical fishes together? Wouldn't it be bad for the other tropical fishes if they ate the pellets for the bettas everyday?

Re: Betta Question

I know there are people who will disagree with me, but I personally would never keep Betta in a community tank. Too many possibilities for problems, fin nipping, diseases etc. and then of course there's the food issue. Overeating is very dangerous for Bettas and it would not be possible to control them and stop them from eating the other fishes food. I think Bettas are best on their own or with snails, cories, otos and other gentle bottom feeders.* It always upsets me when I see people keeping Bettas in large tanks with many varieties of fish. Bettas have spend their entire lives alone. To suddenly place them in a busy tank with lots of fish swimming has to be stressful!

Re: Betta Question

When I kept Autumn with platys and mollies I would allways make sure to feed them first on one side of the tank then sneek his pellets on the other side.

Autumn wouldn't try to compete for food so this method worked best for me.
