Now I've really done it...I just couldn't resist....
It's really not my fault, I swear. See I was just at Petco, with absolutely no intention whatsoever to purchase anything, just minding my own business, when suddenly I heard something calling me from over in the Betta section. I went over and suddenly was confronted with an absolutely gorgeous male ddr crowntail mustard gas. "Look how beautiful my shiny turquoise scales are!!!!" he said-- "and check out my pretty black-tipped tail!!! And get this--I'm not just a ct, not even a dr ct, but a DDR CT!!! and for the same price as the regular ct's!!! And a mustard gas too!!! What a steal!!! Oh just look at me, look how wonderful I am! See, I'll flare a bit so you can see my amazing finnage! See? See? You knoooooow you haaaaave to have me!! Just imagine...me, beautiful me...in a tiny bowl, never to be appreciated by the person who bought me as some decoration...*sigh* Buuut, I know you do have a nice big tank you could put me in......." *flares again for dramatic effect*
You see??!!!! It was completely against my will. I was just a helpless victim of the Betta. He MADE me buy him! It's not my fault, realllllly it isn't!!!!!!!!!!!!
hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
*pics coming soon (of course!!!), though the q tank isn't lighted so they won't be great.

Okay I have passed the infection on to you....who will it hit next??
Sounds wonderful and I love the idea of more bettas in your care. Alex, Blaze, JT and now Nate are snickering and saying they could have told you so... I told them to behave.
Congratulations.

Re: Now I've really done it...I just couldn't resist....
Help me remember to move the shrimp out of the 20 before Mr. Betta goes in. I don't know where they'll end up in the long term but for now I'll just stick them in the q tank once the Betta is ready to go to the 20. I think he'll be ok with the other fish in there, expecially since it's a big tank with lots of room to hide from him. I just have to remember to move the shrimpies so they don't become lunch....... :P

Re: Now I've really done it...I just couldn't resist....
Thanks everyone for the congrats.
It's a shock to me how different he is from my other two. They are so outgoing and were instantly tame...in fact my fingers still hurt from Cas nipping them while I was TRYING to do a water change for her The new guy (still nameless....) is so different...he's such a shy boy. I think he got a bit depressed while he was sitting around in his tiny, dirty cup at the store, and he's still coming out of it. He's starting to get more interested in stuff now though. He also took a LOT of convincing before he'd eat, and only eats a couple pellets before getting bored with eating. Unlike Cas and Fuego who go so crazy over their food half the time they miss the food in their haste and chomp my finger :P
Well I'm still trying to get a good pic. I'm afraid my pics just won't do him justice. He's not the greatest example of a mustard gas but he is still handsom.

Re: Now I've really done it...I just couldn't resist....
Oh, sorry. DDR stands for double double ray. SR (single ray), DR (double ray), and DDR are used to describe crowntails (or CT's). Single ray is just your normal CT...double ray means that each ray that sticks out branches into 2 rays...and DDR means the two branches branch another time. Am I making any sense? :P (My Fuego is a DR, but I don't think you can tell from any of my pics of him)
Mustard Gas (MG) is a color. The original MG was a strain developed by one breeder that is bicolor with I believe a blue body and yellow fins (I think). Nowadays people use the term loosely to mean pretty much any dark bicolor with yellowish fins, although most fish with "MG" coloring aren't actually that breeder's line of MG's. So my guy isn't technically a MG, but is close enough in color and it's easier to say MG than to describe his exact coloration. Actually though, as he's been coloring up it turns out he looks more like a solid turquoise wiht a bit of yellow than a MG.
Well I should stop rambling there, hopefully I cleared things up a little.

Re: Now I've really done it...I just couldn't resist....
Well I definately won't be able to get a pic of him till he's in a lighted tank, unless you want to see pics of a dark blur :P So you'll have to wait another week or so for pics Still trying to think of a name for him...
Well, I'm amazed at how much he's perked up in his nice big, warm tank. I think he'll be hand feeding in a few days, certainly by the time he's ready to move to his permanent tank. (which is good cause it would be hard for him to find pellets if I just dropped them in in such a big tank...) He's getting so much more active, flaring at his reflection every now and then, and comes to the surface to eat (which is a huge accomplishment after refusing to eat anything the first morning I had him). Well enough of my rambling, I guess the moral of the story is keep the Betta in a tank and he will soon perk up.
