Do your Bettas in divided tanks do this...?

Well I believe Fuego has taken to liking Cas quite a bit. He began building a bubblenest yesterday, and now it's HUGE. But that's not the funny part...every time Cas swims by (which has started to become more and more often ), he goes nuts. Flaring til I think his fins and gills will fall off, doing his little "macho dance", following her around everywhere...and recently he's taken to viciously attacking the divider--trying to get to her. In other words his testosterone is out the roof Cas seems to be noticing him more and will even follow him around while he flares at her, and will come over to his bubblenest (which is against the divider)...but so far she hasn't approved of it and just flares at him a few times before swimming away Wouldn't that be funny if she started getting vertical stripes... :

Well it seems as if Fuego wants to spawn with her...poor guy, doesn't realize it ain't gonna happen. I was just wondering if you guys who also have divided betta tanks--if your Bettas flirt like this too, or if I just ended up with extra weird Bettas.

Here's a pic of his constantly growing bubblenest (well, that is, it keeps growing as long as he doesn't keep smashing into it because he's going crazy, showing off to Cas) :

Re: Do your Bettas in divided tanks do this...?

My guys never flared for either of my girls in my divided tank. First off, nobody ever flared at poor Tua. Even when I put her in plain sight of the guys, they ignored her. Deisie, on the other hand, all my guys were in love with, even Kiakias, who never flared at anything. However, when she was in the divided tank, the canvas broke up her image enough, and kind of blended in with her (she was mostly cream-colored, with red fins), so the guys couldn't see her.

Oh how funny, but do please be sure that there is NO WAY that they can get over that divider or you may have one terribly big surprise one of these days!!

I think that the really young ones will do this if they can see each other clearly enough. I also think there is a pheromone that the ladies and gents put off into the water when they are ready to spawn so that will be an especially dangerous time. They will be like little dogs in heat and if you give them an inch they will take a mile.

Re: Do your Bettas in divided tanks do this...?

Trust me there is no way they can get to each other. The divider goes all the way to the top...there is zero space a naughty little Betta could jump through.

They are both young (got them young on purpose), plus the divider is transparent, so I suppose that's why they're going crazy...it's very amusing watching them flirt. I believe Cas is starting to get vertical stripes and is now also attacking the divider, trying to get through...guess she likes the bubblenest Poor guys, they just won't give up on trying to get to each other.

Well it is your choice but I don't think I would be brave enough....

My divided tanks will have 2 males and they will not be able to see much through the dividers.

Trust me there is absolutely positively NO way over, under, or around that divider. Otherwise I wouldn't have them in there together.

My boys build bubble nests, but so far there has only been minimal flaring across the dividers. There is no way mine can get to each other either. That must be so funny to watch!

Re: Do your Bettas in divided tanks do this...?

Yup it's hysterical. As of now Cas seems to have decided that Fuego is to her liking and follows him everywhere, back and forth along the divider. Neither of them will leave the divider. I swear one of these days Fuego is gonna bust his fins and gills off flaring so much! His bubblenest is diminishing in size...it appears he has become too caught up with his girlfriend to do the housekeeping. Or when he does blow bubbles, he keeps one eye on Cas and keeps his fins puffed out in case she's watching.
