| Silly thread to start but wanted to share..yard sale tank I'm so thrilled. I put it out there to the universe that I really need a 5 gallon tank for Zen while he waits for the 10 to be well again and to have a qtank after that. Wala. The universe responded (any requests I can pass on? heh).
Pulled into a yard sale today and they were selling a 5 gallon tank for $5.00! It has the filter, the bio-sponge, even the frame for the floss. It has a cover and a light that works and gravel that I threw out (had leaves all through it).
It's soaking in white vinegar now with the lid and the white lime deposits are literally falling away from the cover to the bottom of the tank. White vinegar is a great product imo.
Ok universe...I really would like a 200 gallon tank now for $20.00, k? I need some blood parrots (I so love these guys..so sad what we huemans did to them...their mouths are deformed and they can't use them because of how we bred them...grrr...and the purple ones are dyed)

| Re: Silly thread to start but wanted to share..yard sale tank So mote it be
Once Zen's in the 5 gal, the ghost shrimp can move from the 1 1/4 quart acrylic p.o.c. to the 2 gallon that Zen's in. I will be throwing that thing away!
These ghost shrimp are still just that, ghost shrimp. They didn't grow to become the fish eating prawn! Did you see that thread I shared here about that awhile back? She'd bought what she thought were ghost shrimp that grew to be nasty prawn instead that consumed an adult tiger barb. If you missed that, I'll find it for you. Freaky stuff.
The ghost shrimp still aren't going back with Zen though (they were with him for 10 hours until I couldn't stand it and took them out). I'm just too uncomfortable with that. I know many do keep them with their betta but since they sleep on the gravel...nope. Plus, I don't want Zen to eat them either! They're too large for a mouthful but Zen could take bites.

Okay here's one for you put out into the universe for me, I've been trying but to no avail!
I need a way to convince my fiance that I NEED another betta tank at our house! That way I'd have one at the office and one at home!!!
He is using the trivial argument that we don't have any room for it! Like just because we live in a two bedroom duplex with his daughter, two dogs, two geckos, and a 10 gallon tank, we don't have any room for more pet! ha! I could MAKE space, lol!

| Re: Silly thread to start but wanted to share..yard sale tank I live in a small house and swore when I got the first tank there was no room for anything else. Now I have 5 tanks, one to be removed soon but there is room. you just have to get creative....

Here's the arguement for hubby. "But honey, all I need is a stand that holds two tanks and not a bit more space will be occupied than there is now." http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...1&N=2004&Nty=1
The universe says to tell you to pout. LOL |

| Re: Silly thread to start but wanted to share..yard sale tank I tried that one, but he seemed to think that our dogs may bother the bottom tank. I'm not sure if they would or wouldn't...

I'm not sure if the dogs would drink from the tank. Made my cat sick when she drank declorinated water. Depends on how eager they are to finnagle the cover off. Not worth the risk to have a bottom tank.
If there was a stand that put the bottom tank on top of the top tank... but then it'd be too high.
A 5 gallon on a counter?
Bathroom?
At the foot of the bed on a smallish stand instead of a hope chest (remember those?)?
How about the bedroom dresser? You don't really need to use the mirror right?
lol
Good luck. The universe has it. Maybe it'll produce. |

| Re: Silly thread to start but wanted to share..yard sale tank Welcome Charis!
We couldn't have anything that our Maine Coon cat, Marmalade, could get into. He's a water baby and loves to play and put his toys in his water dish. I could see GB swimming around a catnip-filled toy mouse.
The story about the ghost shrimp sounds interesting, AesSedai. I've not seen the post, yet, though.
BTW, if you are universe-connected AesSedai, I'm thinking of a ten-room beach-front house; any help is desired.

| Re: Silly thread to start but wanted to share..yard sale tank I agree with being creative! I had 5 tanks also in my small house, now down to 3, a 37, 38, and a 55 and found nice decorative stands that also hold some of my house decorations!! I want a tank in the bedroom but my very patient husband said no as he works nights and the lights would bother him when he sleeps! Will have to wait 2 years for when he retires!!!!!! Actually, I want to put a 125 in my heated basement for 2 oscars. So, lets see, 1 dollar per gallon, wish and hope for a 125.00 tank for me! |
