Corner Filter

I have a small corner filter for my quarantine tank. It wants to float up from the bottom and isn't very attractive. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep it anchored to the bottom? Also, is their any way I can decorate the filter to make it look more natural in the tank?

Re: Corner Filter

It could be that there are air bubbles in there. If there is a sponge in it try squeezing it out underwater to get rid of air. Otherwise just cuss at it until it stays : (that's my strategy. ) (well not really... :)

Re: Corner Filter

No sponge, just filter floss. Maybe if I squeeze the floss? Cursing is not an option for me. Growling might work though.

Re: Corner Filter

Try a variety of vicious sounding noises. Yeah it might help to squeeze the filter floss, and also just check for bubbles within the filter.

Re: Corner Filter

I think they do have a kind of sponge in them on the inside so yes, I think that squeezing them and getting them full of water will weigh them down.

Are you sure that they did not come with a suction cup of some kind?

Re: Corner Filter

No there is no suction cup on it. Is there any way I could get one to put on it? Also, there is nothing in it but filter floss. No sponge, but I am trying to get all the air squeezed out of it. It is still floating. Could I weigh it down with gravel or something? I really need that Q tank. I want to add fish to all my tanks. I will experiment with rocks and gravel and let you know if it works.

Re: Corner Filter

I would tie it to a rock or maybe tie a small bag of gravel to the top of it or somehow get it weighted down. As long as it can get water all around it it should be okay. I have some of the PennPlax Corner filters and they have suction cups in their frame and you just change a filter media cartridge when needed. I bought them for when I am taking medication out of the q tank and leaving fish in to recuperate. I guess the Corner Filter you are using is a different brand than I am familiar with.

I would think any way you can find to anchor it would be fine.

Re: Corner Filter

If it's the lee's corner filter you can put gravel on the bottom of it and put filter floss on top, maybe you can still do that with this one sorta like Rose mentioned.

Re: Corner Filter

Yup.* It's the Lee's.* I put the gravel on the bottom, the floss on top of that, and a couple of bigger rocks on top of that.* (It didn't work with only the gravel on the bottom of it.)* It is now sitting serenely on the bottom of Bessie's tank getting cycled.* It just goes to show that where there's a will, there's a way.* Thanks for the help. How long do you think it will take to cycle the corner filter, since it is in a cycled tank?

Re: Corner Filter

Don't know how long it will tank but it should work with gravel in it, maybe you didn't put enough, it worked for me. Best way to hide it is to put some plants in front of it.

Re: Corner Filter

Okie dokie. Maybe I just didn't put enough gravel in it. Thanks for the help. I will look for plants when I go fish shopping. Man, fish and aquarium accessories can get mighty spendy. Sure hope I get done with the spending part soon. Or maybe it never ends. : : :

Re: Corner Filter

It does get better but I am afraid that there is always something that tempts me to buy it and see if the kiddies would like it. My house could open into an aquatic supply house.

Re: Corner Filter

Heh I wonder how many people have had to file for bankruptcy due to too many fish.

Just curious, what fish are you getting? All your tanks seem pretty well stocked.

Re: Corner Filter

No more fish except for Andy (gold/silver halfmoon betta) who will be going into the 12 gallon with the loaches and then I will have to put Tuck in there too as he will be homeless or I will put Sleepy and Doc in the 12 with the loaches and Andy (probably just Tuck) It is going to be on this order...

#1 JT (male Halfmoon Betta)
Sleepy & Doc (otos)

#2 Alexander (male Halfmoon Betta)
Dopey & Dingbat (otos)

#3 Blaze
Winky (Peppered Cory)
Dinky (Sterba's Cory)

#4 Andy (male Halfmoon Betta)
Tuck (oto)
Sid, Mickey, Zippy, & Flash (Dwarf or Chain Loaches)

That should do it. If they come up with a Marty Jr. Betta for me, I will have to do some more rearranging or adding to equipment. (sigh)

Re: Corner Filter

My space is very limited and doing water changes and tank maintenance is quite time consuming in my situation so I have to limit the number of tanks and sizes. Otherwise, I would have a hundred.
