Betta Cost? Just out of interest, how much do you guys pay for Bettas in the States?

most of my bettas have been rescues from wal-mart/petsmart/ LFS/etc....so I've honestly only paid between $3-4, but i'm looking into another on aquabid, honestly i'm willing to pay up to $25 for the fish depending on quality and if it's exactly what i want (plus shipping) even though i'm a broke college student

Where I live a plain red or blue betta is $25, and my LFS has some crowntails for $50. None of which are in good condition!

wow, that's insane! crowntails here run around $8-10 at the LFS, they aren't in excellent condition but they arent torn up either. i'd suggest looking on a site like aquabid or even ebay sometimes, i dont know how shipping would be for you, but considering that the crowntails are $50, it would be completely worth it to me to pay the shipping (which may honestly come out so that you'd be paying LESS than for the LFS crowntails) and get a great quality betta that would be healthy and happy for a long time!

I'm in NZ, so just have to make do! I'm getting a Betta this week and will probably pick the one I think no one else will want. I hate seeing them in those little cups.

believe me i completely understand! all of the bettas you see in my signature have been rescues. although they aren't as healthy initially, i love them all to death. with proper care and attention they grow like crazy! i've been taking a while to get an "after" picture for my before and after of my betta boy Ares, but the change has been incredible from a tiny wal-mart cup to a heated, filtered, cycled 5 gallon!

Well, my crowntail that I got at PetSmart was only 3$ish dollars. My super delta tail dragon was $30 at a smaller family-owned aquarium store. I was not happy about the price (actually kind of shocked by it), but he really is very unique-looking and so I think he was worth that price. He was also in very good condition/healthy-looking.

At Petsmart near me, the females are $3, the VT males are $5, and the CT males are $6. Petco has a lot more selection, HM, DT, etc. but they are a lot more expensive. Wal-Mart sells them all for $3.

My halfmoon boy was about $14. Then about $6-7 for the crownies, and like $2-3 for the veiltails. The girls are a bit cheaper then the boys as well.

At my closest LFS, veil tails are $6.99, and half moons $11.99. I would go to the other LFS (which is more reliable), but their selection of betta is rather small (maybe eight) and all of the betta are the same (white veil tails)
