I was on this website, a breeder's site, and the site owner was raving about the qualities of bloodworms for bettas and how they're a more natural food, how pellets are for amateurs, etc etc. Anyway I thought "well, maybe there's something to it."

Rusty tried one and spat it out. Then looked at me gravely.

Your Betta is your best reference for food. Evidently Rusty doesn't like gourmet foods LOL. Although most fish would kill for a bloodworm.

Haha Well ... you don't want to be around my angels when they see bloodworms. If you feed them with your hands, be prepared for severe nipping, lol. I ususally feed them bloodworms with tweezers, lol

I have the opsoite problem blood worms is all Aquatius will eat!

My mollies go crazy for them but they only get them when i cut to much off of the frozen block lol.

all Rusty wants are shrimp pellets and betta pellets. I'm just trying this and that to see if I can work out the diet thing so that Rusty is not so eager to eat what the corys eat. However yes, I had heard that fish go nuts for bloodworms. Rusty probably doesn't like the texture or who knows what. Picky fish.

they're sort of greyish cylinders that come in a sealable package. My corydoras love them. Unfortunately so does Rusty the betta. What he wants is to steal them and suck them till they are small enough to swallow. He hates the idea that the corys might find something tasty on the tank floor. That's why I'm trying out different things to treat him with.

Since Bettas seem to have such 'fragile plumbing' , even Aqua-Man couldn't convince me to feed my guys only blood-worms..as a weekly treat, yes..as a daily meal, forget it!!..I love meat, but I know I couldn't live on a Protein diet alone!..similarly, Bettas won't have optimum health on a diet of Blood-worms alone..a combination of pellets along with Blood-worms and Brine-shrimp, seems to do the job just fine..JMHO.

He hates the pellits. I have tryed soking them in the blood from the worms but he still does not eat them. I tryed for a week and a half but he did not eat them so i finaly had to give him his bloodworms. Ill try the shrimp belits if i can. O and he gets a pea once a week. He like them.

I wouldn't worry too much...Rose has a betta that pretty much just eats worms. Bettas are not entirely carnivorous but nearly so. The shrimp pellets are for bottom feeders mostly but a betta will explore an entire tank area for food if they have the space. Mine are an Aquarian product and are bottom sinking shrimp pellets.

Rose now has 5 Bettas who eat Bloodworms and will not touch the pellets. Alexander decided last week that he was ready for " big betta" food and was not going to stand for the baby food any more. So now he is on the bloodworms at all times, but they all get the Daphnia for fiber at noon and they love it. A pinch of it is all it takes and they have not suffered constipation since. I know that is 3 meals a day but it is such a tiny pinch and they go after it righy away, I just cut back on the worms a little. It keeps the plumbing running properly.

I have a hard time getting julian to eat anything but blood worms. He will eat other food,Granted, but not nearly as quickly as he does with those worms.

One thing about bettas...they always know what they want. Rusty wants pellets. He loves them. I had a nightmare (sorta) once where I spilled the contents of half a container into his tank, and was desperately trying to stop him from eating them all.

I think it is really interesting how different bettas can be with their tastes. I had bought bloodworms out of curiousity a while back and tried them. Raspy liked them very much and Lilex gave me a VERY disapproving look and wouldn't eat anymore than two the first time and then never ate another one. Now I feed Lilex the Hikari betta pellets and he loves those more than any other food he's ever eaten!

For those of you who have little bettas who will eat a variety of foods, you must consider yourselves very lucky. For the vast majority of us, our little ones will choose one type of food that they will eat then they will not even try anything else. I have joked that there are probably Betta owners out there who have gone bankrupt trying to find THE right food for their little one to accept. I am sure that there are some of us who do not get much of a laugh from that. I am betting I have the better part of $100 of fish food in this house that my little finicky folk won't even try. I spent less money buying my 4 tanks.

Since I wrote the other day, mine are now iffy about the Daphnia so now we are back on the peas (that everyone loves and some fight over in the girls tank - there is the air of a bargain basement sale with everyone pushing and shoving)
