| If Bettas vision is so poor how in the world can they find their microscopic fry eggs to put in the nest then.....I don't think this guy has much experience in keeping Betta fish...Unfortunatally, a LOT of people believe this is all true when they buy a Betta....I've been working on changing that by providing a "care sheet" when I sell my babies.... |

| The guy is an idiot. Please, folks, go to the link and, if you disagree with the "expert", rate the interview as "poor." |

Yeah, umm... I think that He needs to go to asia and collect bettas, and actually see that they live in things called STREAMS!!! where there IS moving water and FILTRATION. Dude needs to check is expert license or something. |

| The guy wouldn't be able to find Bettas he thinks they live in mud puddle pockets w/ no air. He prob couldn't find his own behind. oh yea, I did rate the interview as poor, about 20 different times from different computers, I was at work when I saw it. |

| As with most myths, there is a tiny little grain of truth to the "mud puddle" thing. However, it's not that bettas live in mud puddles, it's that they die in them. When the dry season hits, many bettas get trapped in ever-shrinking bits of water. This is the easiest time to harvest them for the aquarium trade, and the people doing so are pretty much rescuing the bettas, because the majority of them will die before the rain starts again.
So if the guy went to Asia during the dry season, he'd probably find a bunch of them, and his "expertise" would be confirmed in his mind. If he went any other time, he wouldn't find any.
And... Kudos to Angela for voting the guy down a bit. |

| Hmm, didn't know that Sirdarksol. Does make sense however. <fills tidbit away to tell off betta clerk next time confronted with one> |

The labyrinth organ is a modification made to allow some of the bettas to survive each dry season. It allows them to mitigate the worst of the lack of air, the ammonia poisoning, etc... for a few months. |

| He can't even pronounce "betta" right. I also like how he says those betta bowls were sold in flower shops that didn't know much about fish. Obviously this man doesn't know much about fish either. Last edited by Red wag platy; January 17th, 2009 at 09:45 PM.

| To answer the question: what's the most common diseases that affect bettas?
One the most life-threatening adversities and likely the most common one Bettas find are people following the advice of these "Expert Professional Aquarist" from LFSs. These are Experts, for sure, Experts pushing sales of fish.
Usually I don't use smilies, but as far as swallowing the content of this video I say this:

| I wouldn't go so far as to call all of the comments intelligent, but some of them have the right idea.
I've seen that before actually, and it made me laugh. Silly man. |
