Betta ate a piece of dust...

So my friend bought me a betta complete with a bowl, gravel, plant and snail for Christmas.

Anyways, I was putting in some gravel, and a little piece of dust fell in with it too. I noticed my betta inspecting something on the surface which, lo and behold, was the piece of dust. Anyway, he gobbled it up, and now I'm wondering if he's gonna be okay. So, I ask, will he?

Note: I've never owned a fish before, so I'm pretty inexperienced regarding fish.

Thanks!

I'm not to sure about the dust..But a betta should have a min. of 2.5 gallons 5 gallons is better..They also need a heater and a filter just like any other tropical fish..A bowl isn't the best home for the little guy. It's a common mistake among betta owners..Here is a link to help you understand your betta

Hi! Welcome back.

What happened to your 10g?

I'm surprised he ate it! If it was tiny, I doubt it will hurt him.

I noticed you say he's in a bowl? Here's some good information on betta care:

Thanks for the warm welcome

I'll definetely(sp?) look into getting a tank for him.

But my friends who gave me this betta have kept their bettas in bowls for years and have lived up to around four years of age.

But if it helps, I'll look into tanks once I have the funds.

That care guide is definitely a wonderful source of information. But don't feel bad about not knowing, so many of us started out knowing absolutely nothing about fish, and it's great that you are coming here to learn.
I wouldn't be too worried about the dust, I mean it falls into the tanks all the time, not much we can do about it.

Haha thanks for all the tips guys. I think the bowl I have might be too small, so until I pick up a tank, I'll have a larger bowl until then.

And I'm relieved about the dust. Thanks guys
